Fabrication Manager Mesa, AZ Position: Fabrication Manager Classification: Salary, Exempt Position Minimum Qualifications A bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering or a related field is not mandatory, but is valuable. A Fabrication Manager should have at least 7-10 years of structural steel fabrication experience and at least 5 years of supervisory experience in a fabrication shop of reasonable size and volume. The Fabrication Manager should have experience with Tekla or FabTrol or some other relevant production software and be competent with Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel. The Fabrication Manager keeps an eye on available space in which to assign work and bottlenecks that need relief. When workflow is operating smoothly, the Fabrication Manager is coaching foremen and skilled positions to improve skills including fitting, welding, part prep and so on. The more skillful and engaged his staff is, the more successful he will be. Key Responsibilities The Fabrication Manager will oversee the flow of work coming from Fabrication Coordinators and Processing manager going to the shop floor. He will keep in mind safety, deadlines, teamwork, the health of shop equipment, and clearly communicate to those who report to him how they can be successful. Should there be any challenges meeting deadlines or quality expectations, those issues will be communicated immediately and clearly to the Director of Fabrication and Project Manager assigned to the job. Superior communication skills are of paramount importance for all company leaders. Verbal and non-verbal communication should suggest that the Fabrication Manager is calm, confident, approachable, honest, humble, and compassionate. His staff will follow his example and comply with his expectations so long as they are well delivered. He must be a team player willing to give and receive constructive feedback from other company leaders. He should have a passion for doing things the right way and for developing talent. Above all, he should embody the company virtues of Happy, Hungry, Hardworking & Honorable. Leaders are lifetime learners. Where a Fabrication Manager understands his own deficiencies, he should be hungry to study resources that can improve his skill set for Production and Leadership. Essential Job Functions The hours of a Fabrication Manager depend greatly on the amount of work going through the fabrication shop and the level of competence he has around him. It is anticipated that he or she will arrive and be ready before starting time and will spend time preparing for tomorrow after crews have already departed. Safety Sensitive Position The Fabrication Manager is a Safety-Sensitive Position as defined by Arizona's laws regarding employment practices and working conditions because the Fabrication Manager are responsible for their own safety and the safety of the crew. See A.R.S. § 23-493(9). Furthermore, the Fabrication Manager is essential in maintaining or monitoring the steel construction process. Any malfunction or disruption in this process may result in injury or property damage. See A.R.S. § 23-493(9)(b). Therefore, it is critical that the Fabrication Manager be alert and under no circumstances be impaired by any alcohol or drugs, whether lawfully or unlawfully obtained. Compensation and Benefits Salary is individually negotiated. There is an opportunity for profit-sharing if the company is sufficiently profitable.
