Job Title: Chadwick Horticulturist Department: FAES | Chadwick Arboretum As part of the College of Food, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CFAES) team and under the supervision of the Chadwick Arboretum Horticulture Manager, coordinates and assists with operational and greenspace management tasks at Chadwick Arboretum and Learning Gardens; Coordinate staff to maintain gardens, lawn areas, and green infrastructure; Provides training to students, interns, volunteers and Master Gardeners on best practices in horticulture; Provides support for horticultural, agronomic, turfgrass, ecological and related teaching, outreach and research programs; Assists with acquiring mechanical supplies and inputs for horticulture operations and grounds management; Operates and maintains equipment, including but not limited to hand tools, trucksters, skidsteer, and fertilizer and herbicide application equipment. Conduct operations to demonstrate best management practices for ecological management, including as part of a public showcase, maintains effective communications with industry professionals, college administration, faculty, students, and the public; Coordinate staff, students, and equipment between Chadwick and Waterman Farm; Assists with equipment maintenance and upkeep; Evaluate projects for improved efficiency of operation, defining the scope of work, acquiring quotes and competing work under the direction of the Horticulture Manager; Assists with technical tasks, such as irrigation evaluation and maintenance, oversee and assist with projects such as the annual cultivar trials, planting, growing, maintaining, and evaluating plants. Designing and renovating garden beds. Leading tours of the arboretum. Performing essential tasks such as weeding, mulching, and watering of trees, plant collections, and cultivated gardens. and Coordinate volunteers and staff to assist with greenhouse planting, garden maintenance, and other related functions; Assists faculty, staff and students with research projects within the confines of Chadwick Arboretum; Provides back up support and assistance to other CFAES unit managers, including, but not limited to horticulture and special crop areas, environmental and natural resources, grounds and turfgrass, Chadwick, Waterman, and Wetlands facilities. MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS High School diploma or GED. Certification or vocational training may be preferred. 1 year of relevant experience required. 2-4 years of relevant experience preferred Additional Information: This job profile is a Farm Coordinator 2 (T2 level) position on the career roadmap.
