Chalk Point Generation Station, located in Aquasco, Maryland, is a major power generation facility with a total capacity of approximately 1618 MW. The station comprises nine units, including seven gas turbines, and two steam turbines. This configuration allows the station to effectively meet regional energy demands.Opportunity SummaryThe Control Room Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the continuous monitoring of plant systems to ensure optimal performance. This role manages alarms and upset conditions by coordinating corrective actions and leads the execution of plant shutdown and start-up procedures, ensuring that generating requirements are met safely and efficiently.The Control Room Supervisor ensures all equipment operates according to approved procedures, guidelines, and technical manuals while fostering a culture of safety and compliance within the control room team.Primary DutiesYour scope of responsibility as Control Room Supervisor will include the following primary functions:Oversee the start-up, operation, and shutdown of all equipment, including turbine generators, ensuring compliance with safety and operational standards.Ensure the safe and efficient operation of all equipment, including combustion turbines, HRSGs, steam turbines, generators, and auxiliary systems.Actively lead and participate in NAES Safety, Environmental, and Regulatory Compliance Programs, fostering a culture of safety among the team.Promote personal accountability for safety by adhering to and enforcing all company safety and environmental rules, policies, and procedures.Ensure timely and accurate completion of the daily log and other plant records, including electrical output, steam output, emissions output, fuel consumption, water consumption, and heat rates.Conduct periodic reviews of logs and records to verify effective functioning of tag-out procedures, equipment status, and administrative systems.Supervise the administrative maintenance of plant operating manuals, technical references, prints and diagrams, and preventive/predictive maintenance records.Communicate plant abnormalities to personnel and management, ensuring a coordinated response to issues.Monitor the performance of plant equipment and take appropriate corrective action when alarms are activated, coordinating with the operations team as necessary.Provide direction and support to team members in task execution, ensuring efficiency and adherence to safety protocols.Facilitate staff training and development, enhancing operational competency within the control room team.Ensure accurate and complete shift handover, presenting and delivering all plant issues and concerns to incoming personnel, ensuring no shift relief occurs until properly briefed.Maintain proficiency in the operation of all plant equipment, proactively monitoring systems to identify potential issues.Lead troubleshooting efforts for technical issues and diagnose equipment failures/anomalies in collaboration with the technical team.Direct control measures during plant upset conditions, including containment, control, and corrective actions.Support maintenance activities during normal shifts and outages, coordinating with the maintenance team to optimize plant performance.Collaborate with the Maintenance Team to execute maintenance plans, providing necessary support such as Lockout/Tagout, equipment identification, troubleshooting, and work request preparation.Undertake additional tasks as directed by the Operations Manager, contributing to overall operational success.NAES SafeSafety is a core value of NAES and as a condition of employment, all employees are expected to be mentally alert and work safely at all times. The Control Room Supervisor gives direction to operations personnel.Physical Requirements and Working ConditionsPhysical requirements include the possibility of standing for extended periods of time, stair and ladder climbing and routinely lifting up to 50 pounds. Protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties (e.g., hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves, and high voltage protective equipment, etc.). Work with hazardous materials may be required. Must be able to be respirator qualified. There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facility.Fitness for DutyAll employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post-employment random drug screening. Work SchedulePosition requires extended working hours and varied shifts with weekend and holiday work, as required by schedules, workload, and plant conditions. "On call" status will periodically be required.CompensationInitial starting compensation will range from $53 to $63 per hour and will include an annual performance bonus.Job QualificationsAbility to understand procedures and instructions specific to the area of assignment as would be acquired in four years of high school.Extensive experience in power plant operations, with a focus on control room management and system monitoring. Preferred experience in the direct operation of a combined cycle large frame gas turbine power plant.Strong understanding of plant equipment, systems, and operational procedures, including turbine generators, combustion turbines, and HRSGs.Theoretical and practical knowledge of combustion and steam turbine operations, closed system steam generation, industrial safety, hazardous waste management, and the inspection and recording of plant parameters.Experience in water chemistry control, analysis of water conditions, water treatment facility operations, and chemical handling requirements.Demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience, including the ability to direct and develop team members effectively.Proven track record of adhering to safety and environmental regulations, with the ability to enforce compliance among team members.Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively convey information to management and team members.Must possess a valid and unrestricted driver's license, ensuring it remains in good standing at all times.About NAESNAES Corporation is the leading provider of operations, maintenance, and engineering services for energy facilities.
