THE DIVISION The Division of Virginia State Parks fulfills its mission "to conserve the natural, scenic, historic and cultural resources of the Commonwealth and provide recreational and educational opportunities consistent with the good stewardship of these lands, waters and facilities that leaves them unimpaired for future generations" by operating a system of 43 state parks that encompass over 75,000 acres; over 1200 buildings, almost 1700 campsites; over 300 cabins; over 700 miles of trails; nearly 500 miles of shoreline; 36 lakes and ponds; 11 swimming beaches; 4 international dark sky sites, and offers over 20,000 educational programs and workshops each year. Managed by a full time staff of 275 and a wage staff of 1000+ during the prime season, Virginia's award-winning state park system boasts an incredible and diverse array of natural, cultural, historical and recreational resources; including parks in the mountains; on the ocean; on the Chesapeake Bay; on 8 major rivers; on 4 major lakes; 4 rail trails; and 3 battlefield sites, and 32 sites listed on the National Historic Registry. THE PARK Nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, James River State Park features rolling grasslands, quiet forests and beautiful views, as well as 3 miles of shoreline along the James River. Visitors can hike, bike, canoe, kayak, fish or tent camp on the banks of the historic river or at Branch Pond. Facilities include cabins, a visitor center, a gift shop, a camp store, a natural playground, picnic shelters, multi-use trails, boat launches, water/electric campgrounds and equestrian camping. The park also has a universally accessible fishing pier and a .25-mile-long wheelchair-accessible trail around Green Hill Pond. The park is also a great place to view the annual James River Batteau Festival. A replica of one of the unusual vessels is on display at the visitor center. THE OPPORTUNITY As the Park Ranger-Housekeeping, you will be part of an exceptional team dedicated to maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness, safety, and guest satisfaction within the park. In this role, you will supervise the day-to-day operations of the housekeeping and maintenance staff, ensuring that all facilities and grounds are well-maintained and meet current safety and quality standards. Your key responsibilities will include: * Overseeing Cabin Operations: Manage the housekeeping operations for cabins and other overnight facilities, ensuring that all areas are clean, safe, and ready for guests' arrival, while addressing any issues promptly. * Supervising and Assigning Work: Provide daily supervision and leadership to part-time staff, volunteers, and alternate work force members. Assign tasks effectively, ensuring that all duties are completed efficiently and up to standard. * Visitor Interaction and Support: Perform tasks related to fee collection, assist visitors with inquiries, and provide public relations services, ensuring guests have a positive experience while visiting the park. * Education and Enforcement: Educate Park visitors on park rules, regulations, and safety guidelines, promoting responsible enjoyment of the facilities. * Maintenance and Repairs: Conduct routine maintenance and minor repairs to facilities and grounds, ensuring that all areas remain in excellent condition. Assist with ongoing upkeep projects as needed. Minimum Qualifications * Experience in housekeeping operations including managing housekeeping duties in a commercial, institutional, or recreational facility, with a focus on cleanliness and safety standards. * Supervisory experience such as leading a team, including assigning tasks, training staff, and ensuring accountability for housekeeping duties. * Knowledge of cleaning procedures and products including familiarity with various cleaning agents, techniques, and equipment used in maintaining facilities to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
