Job Description Maintenance Technician II Location: Facilities & Construction 12 months, 8 hours/day Grade 16, $16.66/hour Non-Interim Position Start Date: 11/12/2024 Purpose Statement The job of Facilities & Construction Maintenance Technician II is done for the purpose/s of providing support to the educational process with specific responsibilities for maintaining facilities in safe operating condition; addressing immediate operational and/or safety concerns; assisting Maintenance Technicians III's and IV's in various general maintenance assignments: carpentry, plumbing, masonry, electrical, welding, locksmith, HVAC and generator preventative maintenance, grounds keeping, etc.; and ensuring that tools and materials are available at job site. This job reports to Lead Person, Tech III & Tech IV Essential Functions Arranges furniture and equipment for the purpose of providing adequate preparations for special events. Assists Maintenance Technicians III's and IV's (e.g. transporting and/or securing materials, completing specific tasks, etc.) for the purpose of completing projects in a safe, efficient manner. Attends meetings, workshops, trainings, and seminars for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions. Builds items (e.g. counters, temporary partitions, etc.) for the purpose of modifying and/or adapting facilities to specific needs. Coordinates with assigned lead and/or supervisor and other trades for the purpose of completing projects and work orders efficiently. Maintains records (e.g. generator usage, filter replacement dates, etc.) for the purpose of providing up to date information and/or historical reference in accordance with established guidelines. Maintains vehicle, tools and equipment for the purpose of ensuring availability in safe operating condition. Performs a variety of general maintenance activities for the purpose of completing projects within established time frames. Performs preventative maintenance on systems (e.g. lighting, heating and ventilating systems, alarms, plumbing, security, electrical panels, etc.) for the purpose of providing a safe and workable environment. Performs a variety of general grounds keeping (e.g. mowing, lining athletic fields, spreading wood chips, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining safe and attractive areas for assemblies, recreational activities and/or athletics. Processes written materials (e.g. work orders, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities and/or conveying information. Repairs a variety of equipment, systems, and/or structural items for the purpose of ensuring a safe working condition. Requests equipment and supplies for the purpose of ensuring availability of items required to complete the necessary installation and/or repair. Services locks (e.g. adjusting, fixing, replace batteries, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining a safe and secure facility. Transports a variety of tools, equipment and supplies for the purpose of ensuring the availability of materials required at job site. Other Functions Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit. Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications Skills, Knowledge and Abilities SKILLS are required to perform multiple tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: operating equipment used in skilled trades, power and hand tools, etc.; adhering to safety practices; handling hazardous materials. KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; understand written procedures, write routine documents, and speak clearly; and understand complex, multi-step written and oral instructions. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: standard methods, materials and tools used in assigned skilled trade; safety practices and procedures. ABILITY is required to schedule activities; collate data; and use job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others; work with data utilizing specific, defined processes; and operate equipment using standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a diversity of individuals; work with similar types of data; and utilize a variety of job- related equipment. Some problem solving may be required to identify issues and select action plans. Problem solving with data may require independent interpretation; and problem solving with equipment is moderate. Specific ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adapting to changing work priorities; developing effective working relationships; displaying mechanical aptitude; working under time constraints; maintaining a good rapport with students, employees and community. Work Environment The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, frequent climbing and balancing, significant stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 20% sitting, 30% walking, and 50% standing. The job is performed under temperature extremes and under conditions with some exposure to risk of injury and/or illness. Experience: Job related experience is required. Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
