Position Type: Student Support Services/Substitute Licensed Practical Nurse Date Posted: 7/1/2024 Location: Center for Education Services Closing Date: 06/30/2025 Additional Information: Show/Hide Substitute Licensed Practical Nurse To Be Assigned Hourly Wage - $27.72 per hour Minimum Requirements High School Diploma/G.E.D. Current MD LPN or RN License. Availability to work 16 hours/month CPR and First Aid certified. Valid driver's license and access to a vehicle. Willingness to be assigned to any site/assignment within Washington County Public Schools and ride a school bus. Two years' experience working with children or combination of education and experience totaling three years. May require physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull or push heavy objects or materials between 30 - 50 lbs. Ability to exercise professional judgment in decision making and communicate effectively. Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this position. Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations. Preferred Qualifications Interest and desire to work with children with developmental disabilities and special health care needs. Experience with Gastrostomy Tube, tracheotomy and ventilator care. Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, other medical professionals, students and parents/guardians, school staff and the general public. Familiar with technology tools. Role Responsibilities Knowledge of Maryland Nurse Practice Act. Under the Supervising Registered Nurse, provide direct nursing care to student who requires medical support in order to attend to and access the instructional program in a safe and secure environment. Assist with physical care and physical management of student, including toileting, feeding, and positioning, as needed and appropriate. Operate and assist with the care of student's medical equipment/classroom equipment. Maintain accurate documentation of services provided and complete student health record. Provide educational support and management of student, as needed, during instructional and non-instructional activities. Perform nursing duties in an ethical and professional manner. Communicate with school staff, medical personnel and families as directed by registered nursing personnel or administrators. Provide education to school staff regarding the medical needs of the student. Participate in training as required to update or maintain skills. Contribute to the nursing process for students with special health care needs. Share knowledge and skills with other LPNs, CMTs and unlicensed personnel. Be available/flexible to substitute assignments. Willingness and ability to accompany students with special medical needs on field trips to various locations and overnights at Claud E. Outdoor School at Fairview. Administer medications and treatments to students in a safe and professional manner from written orders of the student's physician. Assess the sick student to determine the student's wellness and ability to participate in school activities. Evaluate and render first aid and emergency care to the student as the need arises. Educate school staff on medical needs of the student, as well as general health topics. Assist in the development/coordination regarding professional development for the WCPS nursing staff. Contact parents regarding illnesses and health matters of students as needed. Perform nursing duties in an ethical and professional manner Maintain confidentiality and privacy of student communications and student health record. Maintain ongoing communication with Meritus School Health staff and other agencies as needed. Demonstrate courteous and professional demeanor to all stakeholders of Washington County Public Schools and Meritus Health Room Staff. Perform other duties as requested by immediate supervisor.
