Essential Functions * As BMPI Compliance Officer for the Bureau of Meat & Poultry Inspection, investigates retail food markets, restaurants, slaughterhouses and other facilities dealing with animals, meat and poultry or meat and poultry products to determine compliance with Meat and Poultry Inspection laws. * Consults with owners, managers, and employees of various establishments to advise them on methods for complying with laws. * Completes various inspection reports and required documentation of cases. * Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above. Minimum Qualifications * Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to the completion of two years of college with course work in animal husbandry, law enforcement or a related field. * Requires one year of professional experience in a compliance enforcement capacity in an agriculture industry or evidence of completion of an agency approved training program. Preferred Qualifications * Prefers working knowledge of procedures utilized in gathering and assembling evidence, in determining compliance and in initiating formal correction action on violations. * Prefers working knowledge of licenses, health records and certificates and record keeping practices required for the operation of animal and animal products facilities. * Prefers working knowledge of techniques utilized in the examination of animals and animal products facilities to ensure compliance in making recommendations for appropriate regulatory measures in cases involving unlicensed animal and animal products facilities. * Prefers experience applying the various laws, rules and regulations to determine noncompliance and preparing and maintaining routine records and reports. * Prefers experience examining animal and animal products to detect the presence of disease and/or ensure compliance with labeling and packaging requirements.
