Summary The Field Safety Specialist inspects, evaluates and reports on work environments and work practices to ensure compliance with applicable safety laws, regulations, and company policy. This position leads in promoting a culture of safety at Goodwill Easter Seals Miami Valley (GESMV). Essential Duties & Responsibilities * Works with Safety Manager to develop, implement, and track a comprehensive safety and training program, assuring that all employees are trained based on their job responsibilities. * Evaluates company facilities via walkthroughs and Safety and Loss Prevention audits. Provides training and on-site analyses of potential risks and develops appropriate countermeasures. Ensures corrective actions have been implemented. * Conducts and documents accident investigations in a professional, timely, discreet, and confidential manner. Creates and maintains records of investigations. * Operates and monitors video surveillance systems to audit, investigate or review incidents. * Ensures that Worker's Compensation claims are submitted in a timely manner to the third-party administrator. * Verifies compliance with safety and health regulations, and ensures all necessary records are maintained and prepared according to established guidelines. * Researches, interprets, and apply safety guidance based on issues and questions that arise. Work with the Safety Manager to effectively communicate guidance and policy changes. * Leads emergency response situation along with other Safety and Security professionals. Conducts emergency drills and acts as a point of contact with the fire department. * Provides oversite to Site Safety Coordinators, the First Responder's Team, and the Zone Monitor's Team. Recruits and trains new Site Safety Coordinators, First Responders, and Zone Monitors as needed. Provides continuous guidance and support. * Uses professional written communication to prepare accurate and timely reports, email communications, memoranda and other required forms, spreadsheets, and reports. * Represents the Company at Workers Compensation and other administrative hearings. * Maintains and supports all safety related software systems such as Think LP, Alertus, MSDS Online and Safe Personnel. * Complies with all Agency policies, procedures and safety standards throughout work areas and maintains same to meet CARF, Department of Labor and other regulatory standards. * Special projects and other duties as assigned. Supervisory Responsibilities None Education Requirements Associate degree with two years of working experience in safety, loss prevention or an administrative field is preferred. Experience may be substituted in lieu of degree. Experience Requirements A minimum of two years of safety, loss prevention, workers' compensation, retail or administration experience. Previous experience in powered industrial truck training a plus. Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Skills & Abilities Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: * Dependable and trustworthy. * Working proficiency with Microsoft Office suite: Word, Excel, PowerPoint. * Working knowledge of state and federal regulations, OSHA, local fire codes is preferred. * Ability to provide training, speak to groups of people and facilitate or lead investigations. * Strong desire to ensure a safe and secure environment. * Ability to handle multiple priorities. * Ability to exercise discretion regarding confidential and sensitive information. * Good decision-making skills with the ability to influence and act.
