The City of Raleigh Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department is seeking candidates that align with the City's values, is team-oriented and a leader with passion and vision for parks and serving the community. The Senior Irrigation Specialist must be committed to providing exceptional customer service. The successful candidate will work as part of an eight-person team based at the Marsh Creek Parks Operations Center. This position works to create and implement professional maintenance standards and procedures involving park maintenance with emphasis on maintenance and management of the city's irrigation systems. * Installs, adjusts, repairs and replaces irrigation systems. Adjusts, resets, repairs or replaces irrigation controllers and/or valves. * Maintains, tests, and certifies inventory of backflow prevention devices. Reports annually as required by regulatory authority. * Plans and schedules work to provide for preventative maintenance and efficient performance to quickly locate and repair broken pipes, irrigation heads, etc. to reduce water loss and ensure proper operation of systems. * Maintains a stock of repair parts, irrigation heads, tools and other components/supplies used to maintain/repair irrigation systems. * Meets with other city and private utility company personnel to obtain information about relevant water supplies, valves and other components of water supply systems. * Compiles and prepares necessary maps, reports and records. * Reviews construction plans and makes recommendations for specifications related to new construction and renovation of existing water systems. * Inspects and approves work of contractors on COR park projects. * Maintains maintenance records and preventative maintenance schedules for all assigned equipment. * Assists City in cleanup and repair during inclement weather situations. Job Based Competencies: * Thorough working knowledge of components of irrigation systems including backflow * prevention devices, pipe, pumps, irrigation heads, valves, controllers and other parts. * Experience with Rainbird IQ and reclaimed water systems preferred. * Ability to make electrical repairs. * Ability to operate irrigation trencher, backhoe, truck and other hand and mechanical * equipment. * Ability to perform manual labor necessary to dig trenches, install pipes and valves. * Ability to remove and replace turf, shrubs and plants without damage as needed for system installation, repair and maintenance. * Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public. Supervisory Responsibilities: * This position serves as lead for a two-person crew dedicated to irrigation maintenance. Collaborates and provides direct input to Crew Supervisor to gauge performance of crew members and helps direct resources to meet unit objectives. Education and Experience High School Diploma or GED and five years of formal trades experience in one or more areas related to assignment (HVAC, electrical, plumbing). OR An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation. Licenses and Certifications * Valid North Carolina Class C Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire. * City of Raleigh Backflow Prevention certification or equivalent, or the ability to obtain within the first year of employment. * Certified Irrigation Technician (CIT) certification (Preferred). Computer Skills To perform this job successfully, an individual should have working knowledge of spreadsheet and word processing software.
