This position is responsible for general support in the operation, maintenance, repair, remodeling and construction of buildings, machinery, mechanical facilities and equipment of campus buildings and their operating systems. Incumbents work independently and utilize a general knowledge of related skill sets such as plumbing, electrical, carpentry, concrete, and machinist work. Key Responsibilities Duty: Perform the work of a Maintenance Mechanic I Tasks include: * Performs semi-skilled work in carpentry, plumbing, mechanical and electrical work, * Performs minor repairs on mechanical equipment, plumbing, and structural systems of buildings. * Under the technical direction of a journey level trades worker, performs skilled work in carpentry, plumbing, electrical and machine work. * Operates hand tools, power tools, and other shop equipment; * Remodels and constructs facilities in accordance with campus standards. * Adheres to safety rules and department policy and procedures * Drives service vehicles, operate man lifts and hoists and operates forklift and pallet jack as required. Loads and unloads materials and supplies for campus departments. * May assist or work with all trades or craft journey-level personnel. * Repairs and/or assembles furniture in campus offices, classrooms and work spaces; repairs windows, doors, screens, floors, floor coverings and painted surfaces. Duty: Provide support to other Facilities Department projects Tasks include: * Keep maintenance shop, tools, vehicles, and related equipment in a clean and workmanlike order. * Regularly inspect and clean the campus spaces that are dedicated to maintenance and plant operation such as electrical rooms, elevator mechanical rooms, storage rooms and closets, boiler rooms, and equipment mezzanines, etc. * Pick up furniture and equipment that has been deemed surplus from campus departments. * Assist in moving, transporting, and setting up furniture and other items for office and classroom relocation. * Take an active role in complying with all safety regulations and procedures. * Perform related duties as assigned. Skills, Abilities, and Qualifications Positions typically require high school graduation and two years of general work experience in building and equipment maintenance, construction, or repair work. Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license may be required. Desired Qualifications: * Experience in building and equipment maintenance * Experience as a Utility Worker or equivalent education/experience * Strong commitment to customer service. * Ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner, both verbally and written. * Ability to work well in a team environment. * Strong leadership skills. * Ability to work independently, perform multiple tasks and accommodate interruptions. * Ability to work well under pressure. * Computer skills - Outlook; Megamations Supplemental information Most work is performed inside buildings, but movement between buildings is expected. Must be able to stand and walk for long period; bend, climb and reach; and lift, pull or push objects weighing up to 65 pounds. Duties must be performed safely. It is necessary to climb ladders and operate heavy machinery.
