Overview Animal Hospital of Maple Orchard is looking to add a full-time Veterinary Assistant to our growing team! Location: 6066 West Maple Road, West Bloomfield, MI 48322 (moving to this location soon) Compensation: $15 - $16.50 depending on experience Shift Details: This is a full-time position Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 8:00 am - 7:00 pm with rotating Saturdays (30 - 36 hours/week) Hospital Hours: Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 7:00 pm, Saturday 8:00 am - 1:00pm Animal Hospital Maple Orchard is seeking to add a Veterinary Assistant to our growing and progressive team. We are excited to announce that we will soon be moving into a state-of-the-art veterinary facility. Our new beautiful building spans 9,000 square feet and will feature nine exam rooms, a dedicated dental suite, and a CT scanner. As a five-doctor practice, we care for both dog and cat patients. Our team has a close-knit sense of community, and what sets us apart is our team-oriented approach-everyone supports each other to get the job done. We offer a wide range of services, including orthopedic surgery, ultrasound, endoscopy, laser therapy, and advanced imaging with our new CT scanner. While we are not a Fear Free certified hospital, we implement various Fear Free techniques to help alleviate fear, anxiety, and stress in pets. Our goal is for pets to enjoy their visits with us. We place a high value on our culture and want to ensure it is maintained. We are looking for someone with a growth mindset, reliability, and some experience in an animal hospital setting. The Veterinary Assistant position will primarily focus on supporting our appointments. We need someone skilled in restraint techniques to ensure the safety of our patients and team. This role will also involve client education, including knowledge of vaccine protocols and available preventatives. There will be opportunities for advanced training in skills such as venipuncture, lab work, and IV catheter placement. Responsibilities How you'll make an impact: * Our Veterinary Assistants assist the Veterinarians and Veterinary Technicians in all of their duties * The Veterinary Assistant helps to prepare animals for exams and surgery. * The Veterinary Assistant aids in performing medical treatments. * The Veterinary Assistant will perform or prepare laboratory tests. * The Veterinary Assistant will administer medications under the direction of a veterinarian or Veterinary Technician. * The Veterinary Assistant will obtain and properly handle/prepare in-house and laboratory specimens (cytology, blood draws, blood smear, fecal, etc.) * The Veterinary Assistant works in cooperation with staff to attend to any immediate needs. * The Veterinary Assistant handles animals and their owners in a responsive, courteous and tactful manner, and inform staff and clients of any pertinent medical information related to animal care. * The Veterinary Assistant maintains a healthy, safe, sanitary, pleasant and clean facilities for the animals. Qualifications Physical demands and work environment * The Veterinary Assistant must have the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb as well as manipulate (lift, carry, move) up to 50 pounds and lift over 50 pounds with the assistance of a coworker. Requires sufficient ambulatory skills. * The Veterinary Assistant must be able to work in noisy work conditions with sounds from animals and equipment that can be moderately high. * The Veterinary Assistant is routinely exposed to a variety of pets that may bite or scratch, and on occasion, exposed to anesthesia, radiation, biological hazards and medication/controlled substances. * The Veterinary Assistant must be fluent in the written and verbal skills necessary to perform successfully the essential functions, duties, and responsibilities of the position. * The Veterinary Assistant must be able to exchange accurate information with all clients and team members.
