The Field Walkout Technician provides a route analysis of outside plant telecommunications. These technicians are the backbone of telecom and service provider companies since they are the primary designers of the entire network. What you'll do as a Field Walkout Technician Oversee and manage field engineering activities responsible for planning, designing, and obtaining permits for new cable routes Visit customer sites to gather OSP site survey information, evaluate customer requirements and determine the OSP equipment required Work as part of a multi-faceted team consisting of engineering, construction, project management, and scheduling personnel, all with a common interest of delivering results to the customer Coordinate with drafting and/ or GIS personnel located in remote offices to produce construction drawings to be used to construct the network Develop base mapping and provide field engineering services required to prepare permit drawings, OSP construction drawings, and final as-built drawings in electronic format Provide field engineering services required to prepare permit drawings, OSP construction drawings, and final as-built drawings in electronic format per customer specifications Research and incorporate permitting requirements from jurisdictional authorities (i.e., state, county, city, railroads, and others) into the OSP design Recommend final route based on most economical solution and permitting agency's requirements Research and evaluate various route options associated with the projects. Research shall include aerial and underground options, existing customer conduit and other third party conduit Engage daily with the customer's engineering team and project management staff via emails / phone as well as occasional in-person meetings Maintain safe working habits and conditions according to regulations and policies What you'll need To be at least 18 years old Authorization to work in the United States for this company A high school diploma or equivalent Two to four years of experience in the OSP Engineering field Experience with aerial and underground construction methods and engineering requirements Experience with cable placement and splicing methods and practices Effective communication skills The Ability to travel and work extended hours; overtime and weekends as needed Reliable transportation and a clean driving record Familiarity in permitting requirements for state and local agencies A working understanding of the Rural Utility Service (RUS) units and their meaning process Salary Range $23 - $35 per hour Why work with us Your career here is more than just a job - it's your pathway to opportunity.
