Pastry Sous Chef

* This position is for both Ellie Bird and Rooster and Owl, but is stationed out of Ellie Bird.* Ellie Bird is a chef-owned, modern American restaurant focused on exceptional, exciting cuisine in an approachable atmosphere. We have been featured in the New York Times as one of the top 50 best new restaurants in the country, Best New Restaurant in Falls Church, and most recently featured on the cover of Washingtonian's "Best Brunches" edition. Our sister restaurant was awarded one Michelin Star in 2021 and 2022 and nominated for Best New Restaurant 2020 by the James Beard Foundation, and named DC's #2 best restaurant by The Washington Post in Fall 2019. We are looking for a person to join our team for a   Pastry Sous position . Job responsibilities would include:  producing various pastry items for both Ellie Bird and Rooster and Owl based upon the Executive Pastry Chef's recipes, standards and expectations, assisting the Executive Pastry Chef in overseeing production of the pastry team, food ordering, and helping out with dinner services if needed. As a Pastry Sous at Ellie Bird / Rooster and Owl, you should have a thorough understanding of classic/basic cooking and pastry techniques as well as a basic understanding of how to use all the equipment required to produce your mise en place safely. We are looking for someone who has a drive to learn, takes initiative, is flexible with schedules, performs at their best everyday, works well with others, has a sense of urgency, and communicates effectively and respectfully with their co-workers and managers. At least 1 year of managerial experience in a professional kitchen is preferred, but not required. Must be able to stand for long periods of time. Must be flexible with work days.
