Responsibilities River Vista Behavioral Health sits along the bluffs overlooking the San Joaquin River, this brand new, 128-bed facility, will provide high-quality and advanced behavioral health services to residents and visitors in the Central Valley. The new hospital will employ more than 250 people, including clinicians, nurses, mental health technicians, support staff and administration. We are currently seeking a forward thinking and talented Supervisor, Clinical Services/Inpatient to be part of our Clinical Services Team. The Supervisor of Social Services provides administrative support and clinical supervision to the Social Services Department, ensuring appropriate psychosocial treatment programs that meet the needs of the patients and the community and are in compliance with regulatory agencies and the facility's performance objectives. Responsibilities include managing the administrative and clinical processes for all Social Services offered at the facility. QUALIFICATIONS Education: A Master's degree from an accredited college or university in social work, mental health or a related field is required. Experience: Minimum of three (3) years experience in psychiatric/mental health field, with a minimum of two (2) years of experience in advanced clinical/management practice. License:. BBS registered as LCSW. Additional Requirements: A strong knowledge of the Joint Commission, Title XXII, HCFA, OSHA regulations, and patient rights standards and all other applicable federal and state laws and regulations governing mental health care facilities. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES * Makes routine employment decisions and supervises, coordinates, and evaluates the work of professional and non-professional clinical personnel, consulting with the HR Director as necessary. * Oversees the scheduling of staff according to patient needs. Guides and advises subordinates as necessary. * Demonstrates good managerial judgment by conducting all aspects of supervision in a fair, firm, consistent and objective manner. * Recognizes the importance of the evaluation process and is timely with 90-day and annual evaluations, and discipline/commendation program. * Demonstrates knowledge of job description and holds subordinates accountable for responsibilities inherent to their position. * Ensures the Social Services department is operating within defined parameters. Reports any variances. * Maintains active involvement in issues of cost containment through weekly/monthly monitoring of personnel time, equipment and supplies required to deliver care. * Manages the operation of the Activities Therapy department. * Maintains optimal standards of clinical care and constantly evaluates results. * Assists in implementation of policy changes to reflect current standards of practice. * Assists and maintains performance improvement program. * Completes performance improvement reports, develops and monitors performance improvement standards. Develops plan to increase compliance and implements actions to correct deficiencies. * Provides clinical oversight. * Provides social work consultation to physicians, nurses, other hospital staff members, patients, patient's relatives and coordinates with community agencies upon requests and in coordination with assigned social worker. * Participates in hospital in-service education programs to integrate social work with other hospital departments. * Maintains statistical reports for department. * Evaluates patients for unit transfer. * Coordinates treatment rounds and chart audits for compliance. * Maintains regular attendance and participation in departmental meetings, and weekly treatment planning meetings for each patient. * Regularly and effectively works with the Medical Staff to coordinate medical and patient care management. Participates in patient case conferences and milieu rounds regularly. * Assess, review and report safety and risk issues per protocol. * Demonstrates awareness of legal and ethical aspects of care. Ensures that staff function within these limits. * Responds to patient needs, desires, commendations and grievances using established procedures. * Regularly coordinates efforts of both the interdisciplinary treatment team and other allied health services involved in the care of patients. * Communicates with referral sources on needs of their patients on the unit. Acts as liaison between outpatient clinicians and clinical staff. * Works directly with the Intake Department on providing consistent follow-up on referral sources. * Supervises the use of application procedures to ensure clinical is met. Works with other departments and clinicians to ensure patient appropriateness for treatment. * Effectively works with potential patient and clinician to clarify problem areas and to focus treatment. * Consistently advocates and directs clinical personnel within the guidelines of the appropriate professional associations. * Prepares necessary reports and information for the Joint Commission and other health related agencies/regulatory bodies. * Consistently combines ethical judgment with technical skill within the policy and legal guidelines of the facility. * Promotes an environment in which patient care team can work cooperatively toward objectives. * Promotes staff development. Counsels and encourages staff to work as a team in providing quality patient care at optimal efficiency. * Provides leadership through planning, organizing, coordinating, and continually monitoring and evaluating the care given patients on the unit. * Assumes and/or performs additional duties as requested and makes sound decisions within the range of expectation for the job. * Review the quality of documentation provided at all levels of care to assure adequacy and clinical appropriateness. * Assure patients are receiving effective and appropriate treatment, based on the level of care. * Establish standards for customer relations and monitor the interactions between Case Management staff and customers to evaluate the effectiveness of customer service. * Manage the program services offered, consulting with facility management in the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of the case management program. * Maintain an awareness of community and market-related activities which includes knowledge of the activities of other providers, needs of local payers and the political climate related to mental health. * Strategically solve problems that encompass the larger view of the organization and establish goals by utilizing an understanding of organizational dynamics in planning and problem solving. * Ensure strategic program goals and objectives are consistent with overall facility goals and objectives. * Consult with facility management in the development and facilitation of program activities which assure an optimal therapeutic experience for all patients. * Maintain an active involvement and awareness of all patient admissions, discharges and transfers. * Meet regularly with program managers to ensure compliance with program goals and objectives. * Serve on Facility Committees and attend meetings as assigned. * Oversees and manages student interns by providing clinical oversight and daily assignments. * Maintains a positive and professional working relationship with all universities and academic institutions providing student interns.
