Transportation Internship The South Shore Line is seeking 1 to 2 motivated and dedicated interns to join our Transportation Department. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the railroad industry, working both days and nights to support our operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in transportation logistics and engineering, safety protocols, and operational management. The South Shore Line is an equal opportunity employer. Key Responsibilities: * Assist in coordinating railroad operations during day and night shifts. * Monitor and ensure compliance with safety protocols and regulations. * Support the planning and execution of transportation schedules. * Communicate effectively with team members and external partners. * Address and resolve any operational issues that arise during shifts. * Conduct data analysis and generate reports to improve operational efficiency. * Participate in safety audits and inspections. * Provide administrative support to the Transportation or Engineer Department as needed. Position Requirements: The following skills are required: * Currently enrolled in a relevant degree program (e.g., Transportation, Logistics, Engineering, Business). * Strong organizational and multitasking skills. * Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. * Ability to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends. * Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). * A keen interest in the railroad industry and transportation logistics. * Ability to work independently and as part of a team. * Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations. * Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedures manuals. * Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. * Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. * Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Most of the functions will be performed in an indoor office environment, however, some work may be performed on trains or along the South Shore Line's right of way. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, although it can sometimes be very loud, depending on the particular building or locale where the employee is working. Selection is also subject to satisfactory results from a post-offer physical examination, drug and alcohol screening test, and background evaluation (including criminal and trust-related criteria). Schedule: The anticipated work hours will vary. Salary and Benefits: Salary range is based on experience after consideration of skills and work history.
