MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS * 18 years of age or older. * 2+ years' experience serving as a crewmember on ocean vessels. * 2+ years' experience in recreational or commercial fisheries. * Skilled at providing quality experience to guests with diverse personalities, experience levels, and physical abilities. * Experience with VHF radio communication protocols. SUMMARY The Ocean Fishing Deckhand assists the Ocean Fishing Captain in guiding Tribal Member fishing trips on the Tribe's ocean vessel, the Big Canoe. This position may also assist the Captain during research, SCUBA, and other operations. PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES & RESPONSIBILITIES * Assists with operation of the Tribe's 34 ft. North River on inland and nearshore waterways including Coos Bay, Winchester Bay, and ocean waters within 100 miles of shore. * Helps to ensure quality fishing experiences to Tribal Members and other guests. * Helps to ensures safe operations as well as the safety of guests and crew. * Assists the Captain with rigging, baiting, gaffing, netting, etc. during fishing trips. * Cleans and fuels the vessel following trips. LEVEL OF AUTHORITY & RESTRICTIONS * None. PHYSICAL & MENTAL DEMANDS * Capable of operating an ocean vessel in varying conditions, including rough seas, for extended periods. * Capable of lifting 50+ lbs. WORKING CONDITIONS & ENVIRONMENT * Lighting conditions may be very bright or very dim. * Exposure to loud sounds and distracting noise levels. * Occasionally exposed to hazardous equipment. * Occasionally exposed to contaminants.
