Description The City of Roanoke is looking for a dedicated Maintenance Technician II to join our Parks & Recreation team! If you're passionate about keeping outdoor spaces beautiful and functional, this role could be the perfect fit for you. As a Maintenance Technician II, you'll be responsible for performing skilled work to maintain our parks, playgrounds, greenways, and public spaces. This includes operating equipment, repairing facilities, and ensuring the safety and upkeep of city properties. Key Responsibilities: * Perform skilled maintenance and repair work on parks, fields, and equipment, including mowing, aeration, mulching, grading, seeding, and sodding. * Conduct playground inspections and repair related equipment to ensure safety standards are met. * Operate motorized equipment such as forklifts, skid steers, and backhoes, and handle various power tools like saws, drills, and pressure washers. * Support special events by setting up and breaking down stages and equipment, assisting with logistics, and handling related tasks. * Participate in the City of Roanoke's snow removal program and assist with emergency responses as needed, including some nights and weekends. * Load and unload materials such as soil, mulch, and gravel for park projects. * Maintain records, perform word processing tasks, and prepare reports using basic office equipment. Qualifications: * High school diploma or GED required; 1-3 years of related experience in facility or equipment maintenance, or a combination of education and experience. * Ability to obtain a Class A, B, or C Commercial Driver's License and Playground Inspection Certification (after hire). * Hands-on experience with park and ground maintenance, including carpentry, concrete, and masonry work. * Proficient with the use of power tools, hand tools, and maintenance equipment. * Ability to perform physical labor in varying weather conditions. * Possession of a valid Virginia driver's license is required. * Must be able to obtain a Class B Commercial Learner's Permit and full CDL License within 12 months, as well as a Registered Technician spraying license within the same timeframe.
