Title: Registered Nurse (RN) Reports To: Health and Wellness Director (RN) SCA Code: 12312 Position Description Summary Responsible for rendering medical care to the ill or injured according to health standing orders and physician orders. Observes patients, records significant conditions and reactions, and notifies the Wellness Manager or Physician of patients' conditions and reactions to drugs, treatment, and significant incidents. Essential Functions * Takes temperatures, pulse, blood pressure, and other vital signs to determine the patient's progress. * May train staff in areas of CPR, First Aid, and crisis intervention. * Participates in medical examination of new students in accordance with the U.S. Department of Labor's (DOL) guidelines. * May screen patients and direct them to the Center Physician, Dentist, Health Services Coordinator, Counselor, or public health department as appropriate. * Assists the Physician with patient examinations. * Prepares patients for tests and examinations. * Prepares and administers prescribed medications. * Maintains medical equipment and inventory of supplies and medications. * Maintains accurate medical records, updates records in a timely manner, and retrieves all patient records of outside medical visits for continued care on center. * Provides medical counseling/education to students. * Models, mentors, and monitors the positive normative culture of the center. * Acts as a responsible custodian for the assigned center property. * Reports violations of ethical behavior. * Suggests opportunities for continuous operational improvement and reduction of waste. * Identifies and reports environmental health and safety concerns. Requirements Required Education & Experience * Active, unrestricted license to practice in the center's state * One year of health care experience, preferably in a health clinic; proven experience as an RN * Experience working with youth preferred * Excellent knowledge of nursing care methods and procedures * Excellent knowledge of emergency care * In-depth knowledge of health and safety guidelines and procedures (sanitation, decontamination, etc.) and a willingness to follow them at all times Certifications/Competencies * Must have passed the NCLEX-RN exam administered by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) * Must meet all the other licensing requirements mandated by the state's board of nursing * Ability to promote the Career Success Standards (CSS) by modeling appropriate behaviors, mentoring students when necessary, and monitoring both positive and negative behaviors through interventions * Strong organizational skills * Excellent written and verbal communication skills * Computer proficiency required Minimum Eligibility Qualifications * If the position requires driving, a valid driver's license in the state of employment with an acceptable driving record is required * I-9 documentation required to verify authorization to work in the United States * Successfully pass a pre-employment (post offer) drug test and background check.
