Job Description and Duties Per CCR 249.3, this job control may be used to fill subsequent vacancies. The Animal Health Branch is advertising to fill a Veterinarian Specialist (General) at the Animal Health Branch (AHB) Headquarters in Sacramento. Under general guidance of the Animal Health Branch (AHB) Research Scientist Supervisor II, the Veterinarian Specialist (General) plans, organizes, coordinates, and directs activities related to administrative, animal health, food safety, emergency management or other special programs and functions. The Veterinarian Specialist (General) will manage cattle disease control programs in California and will coordinate and provide technical recommendations on cattle activities related to reportable exotic diseases, as well as endemic diseases that are of importance to cattle and human health with duties including but not limited to: * Plan, organize, and coordinate activities that are associated with administering laws, regulations, policies, and procedures related to the Branch's Bovine programs * Serve as a subject matter expert for cattle diseases or cattle health problem areas in the State * Serve as the State Veterinarian's representative to the United States Animal Health Association Binational Committee by attending and participating in state and national strategic planning meetings to develop and modify disease surveillance programs based on current, recurrent, or newly emerging disease threats to California and Mexico * Travel anywhere in the state to provide public education on cattle health programs to members of the cattle industry, including veterinary students and practicing veterinarians * As available, attain and maintain Incident Command System (ICS) position credentialing through in person and online training courses * Review, apply, and enforce laws, regulations, and policies of the Department and of various local, State, and Federal government agencies in all aspects of assigned duties * Analyze, provide comments for, or respond to letters, legislation, regulations, and inquiries that may affect the programs or functions of the Branch Candidates may perform these essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation. You will find additional information about the job in the Duty Statement. Working Conditions The incumbent performs the duties of this position both indoors and outdoors. The duties are primarily conducted indoors. The cubicle is equipped with a built-in modular desk, office chair, a computer with various software programs, a telephone and voice mail and accommodations for adequate filing space. Travel (including nights, weekends, and holidays) for extended periods may be required for meetings and events as well as during an emergency response. Travel on short notice may be required upon activation for emergency response. During emergency response periods, duties may require working long shifts at hours other than the normal work hours. The incumbent must follow CDFA, Division, and Branch employee health and safety policies. The incumbent may fulfill this position from anywhere in the State as a fully remote, home-office-based position. If the incumbent is in the Sacramento area, they have the option of this being a hybrid position (part telework and part in-office). If teleworking, the incumbent must adhere to all telework policies and procedures.
