We are looking for someone who can provide high-quality transportation engineering services for clients while supporting the Project Manager and/or Client Manager. Responsibilities * Design and prepare preliminary and final construction plans and specifications for highways and streets, including drainage and traffic control. * Compile and analyze engineering data, maps, drawings, blueprints, tests, and aerial photographs on soil composition, terrain, hydrological characteristics, and other topographical and geologic data to assist in the planning of projects. * Prepare reports based on data collected. * Assist with creating the scope of projects. * Perform engineering work on multi-disciplinary projects. * Prepare permit application for various agencies. * Assist with preparation of traffic control plans; perform utility coordination; perform hydrological/hydraulic studies; design drainage structures. * Correspond with internal and external clients as necessary via phone, email, mail, fax. * Prepare project cost estimates, bid documents, and specifications for projects. * Visit construction site to monitor progress and other duties per the contract document. * May oversee the staking, layout and inspection of construction projects. * Attend client meetings; prepare meeting minutes. * Perform CADD, MicroStation and OpenRoads Designer work. Work Conditions and Environment * Transportation Design Engineers work both in the office and out in the field. There is a moderate amount of travel to and from job sites. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud. He/she must frequently lift up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift up to 25 pounds or more. * Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Use of computers is necessary to carry out work assignments. Education and Experience Minimum * Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering or related field, 1+ year of experience. Preferred * Bachelors degree or higher in Civil Engineering or related field, Professional Engineer's License, 5+ years of experience, knowledge of engineering principles and practices used in the design, construction and maintenance of all types of highways, bridges and related structures. and experience with MDOT and Local Agency Programs.
