Depending on their experience, individuals may be assigned to work in Trees, Streets, Facilities, Parks, or Water. Temporary employees will operate and maintain a variety of maintenance equipment, including dump trucks, stump grinders, brush chippers, aerial lifts, forklifts, lawn mowers, backpack blowers, backhoes, jack hammers, lawn edger's, hedge trimmers, concrete saws, chain saws and hand tools. Temporary employees will foster positive and effective working relationships and must be able understand and follow instructions. Streets...You may be required to work in the roadway, dig, perform traffic control, paint curbs, replace street and road signs, spread asphalt, clean storm drain inlets, clean, sweep and haul debris. Facilities...You may be required climb ladders, change light bulbs and ballasts, clean roof gutters, paint, sweep, clean sidewalks and/or clear clogged drains. Parks...You may be required to plant and water lawns, shrubs and trees, mow, edge and fertilize lawns, dig, repair irrigation lines, clear drains, pick up and haul debris. Water...You may be required to work in the roadway, dig, assist in the repair of water lines, climb into water filled holes, complete written and computer based work orders. All applicants must have the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment. Immediate openings are available. Minimum Qualifications Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be: * Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade * One year of experience in performing tree maintenance work * Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license by time of appointment * Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Class B license within six months of employment with appropriate endorsements Benefits These are non-benefited temporary positions. A temporary employee may not work more than 1000 hours per year and will receive sick leave in accordance with State Law. Special Instructions Before receiving an offer of employment, the candidate will be required to successfully complete a reference check, criminal conviction history questionnaire, DOJ fingerprinting and a physical examination.
