General Statement of Duties Forsyth County's Department of General Services has an opening for Maintenance Technician II. This position is essential to the daily operation of Facilities Operations maintenance team. This position provides preventative and corrective maintenance on all county facilities that may also include the LEDC Facility. Specific examples of work include but is not limited to: roof inspection and repair, glass replacement, wall repairs and painting, welding repairs, plumbing, HVAC, electrical, electronics and locks. Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 A.M. - 5:00 P.M. When working in the LEDC, this position will work in close quarters with the inmate population of at times, with close supervision from security staff. Distinguishing Features A successful candidate should have the following knowledge, skills and abilities: Ability to do a variety of skilled maintenance work. Considerable knowledge of the materials, tools and methods used in a building trade such as carpentry, plumbing, painting, electrical work or in grounds maintenance. Working knowledge of one or more additional trades. Ability to work from plans and specifications. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to oversee the work of others. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other employees. Heavy lifting at times in excess of 50 lbs. This position has frequent periods of walking and standing. Minimum Education and Experience Graduation from high school or GED and at least three years of experience in the relevant building trade. A valid driver's license. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered for minimum qualifications requirements. This position is subject to working in high security areas governed by the US Department of Justice's "Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy" and therefore requires successfully passing a more stringent criminal background check. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Essential Duties and Responsibilities may include: Performs the initial grading work for new construction to include tree removal and the leveling of the site by using various pieces of equipment. Maintains and repairs a large variety of heating and air conditioning equipment to include preventive maintenance and less complex repairs; may assist with major or complex repairs. Inspects HVAC equipment to include a visual inspection; performs an instrument check. Repairs and installs plumbing fixtures, pressure valves and piping. Repairs and installs light fixtures, switches, breakers, fuses and new conduit wiring. Participates in special projects and general maintenance activities such as flooring repairs such as VCT and carpet squares, as well as drywall patching and repairs; making repairs to building facilities. Oversees a small crew responsible for painting county facilities. Performs related work as required.
