Shift Leader

Rival Bros operates multiple cafes, a cocktail bar/restaurant and a robust wholesale program in the Philadelphia area, delivering excellent coffee and customer experience on each front.  Rival Baristas serve as the frontline ambassadors of all guests' experience. They enable Rival Bros cafes to be places where people can come together and enjoy great food and beverages in an uplifting environment. Baristas act as guides to customers in finding the right options from cafe menus, create quality drinks and products, and provide any additional information that guests need.  Shift Leads at Rival Bros are responsible for aiding cafe management in ensuring that all service, product quality, organization, and cleanliness standards are being met. Shift leads are expected to lead by example in all above areas.  Responsibilities: Service Act as Manager on Duty while on shift (unless with another member of management) Maintain excellent customer service at all times Ensure all staff members on the floor are working efficiently to balance taking/fulfilling orders with other customer facing responsibilities (wiping tables, replenishing milk carafes etc) Quality Control Ensure staff are making items consistently and up to company standards on a daily basis Regularly taste drip coffee, hand pours, and espresso to ensure products are dialed in and appropriately brewed Communicate with the operations manager about retraining needs and training tools Inventory and Organization  Ensure orders are accurate and put away neatly and correctly. Make par adjustment suggestions as necessary Assist in weekly and monthly product counts Assist cafe leadership in upholding best cash handling practices Count the safe at least once per week Report deposit issues, over/unders, tipping issues (missing/discrepancies); approve and annotate payouts Communicate the need for change (bills and coins) and handle cash flow in bankface theory (making change from change, consolidating large bills, etc)  Cleaning and Sanitation Ensure a high standard of cleanliness is being maintained by staff at all times. Rival Bros'  cleanliness and sanitation standards are informed by the Philadelphia Board of Health and Serv Safe program Monitor and assist in routine cleaning tasks as well as more involved deep clean projects Leadership Assist in training of new hires by familiarizing them with day to day cafe operations while on shift Understand and promote efforts to attain quarterly cafe goals Help cultivate an effective, safe, and positive work environment for coworkers Give staff members in the moment, corrective feedback when necessary Monitor all aspects of the cafe and relay to management regularly when desired outcomes are not being met Attend weekly meetings with management to discuss sales trends and ideas for improvement We are looking for candidates who can embody a guest-first mentality; they are committed to maintaining a positive atmosphere during periods of high volume.  Full Time: 5 shifts (30+ hours) Ideal applicants:  Have weekend availability Are comfortable both giving and receiving feedback Are self-motivated and able to complete responsibilities independently Have experience in high volume cafes or restaurants Wish to grow as part of Rival Bros leadership team Physical demands This position will require the employee to periodically lift, push, pull or carry items up to 50 lbs in weight (putting away deliveries of boxes, cold brew kegs, outdoor furniture) This position requires the employee to stand for extended periods of time  This position will require the employee to periodically climb stairs, ramps or uneven surfaces Compensation and Benefits Competitive pay and excellent tips Medical coverage for all full-time employees 40 hours Paid Sick Leave (City)  40 hours Paid Time Off 401(k) Savings Account (3% Matching) Free bag of coffee every week!
