The Plant Mechanic is responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of production and plant equipment at Portillo's Food Service where we cook, package and ship to Portillo's locations across the country.• Ensure timely completion of all maintenance tasks.• Respond to unplanned downtime and emergency requests.• When responding to crisis calls will always arrive at the scene with basic tools and equipment necessary to perform work. • Performs preventive and predictive maintenance on mechanical equipment such as pumps, motors, compressors, exhaust fans, blowers and wastewater.• Interface with outside equipment and service providers.• Maintain spare parts inventory (MRO) and order needed parts.• Ensure that maintenance activities comply with GMPs and USDA requirements.• Identify and communicate to management, opportunities for improvement in physical plant, processing operations and downtime reduction.• Working knowledge and skills in operating a variety of small hand tools and devices used in general mechanical maintenance operations.• Maintains various activity records and logs.• Observe equipment or machinery while in operation to detect malfunctions.• Disassemble mechanical equipment, identify faulty/worn parts, replace, reassemble, and test.• Other tasks as assigned by management.ORGANIZATION RELATIONSHIPS• This position reports to the Plant Manager and interacts with outside vendors.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONSMinimum Work Experience, Qualification, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities• High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and 1+ years of related experience and/or training in an industrial mechanical maintenance or food manufacturing environment; or 4 years' direct experience in an industrial mechanical maintenance or food manufacturing maintenance environment.• Possess the ability to function effectively in a team environment and interact productively with all levels of team personnel and outside contractors.• Ability to read, write the following: work orders, instructions, daily reports and machine manuals.• Can understand and follow oral and written instructions.Minimum Educational Level/Certifications• High school diploma or equivalent preferredPhysical Demands/ Environmental ConditionsMust have ability to sit/stand for extended periods of time and be able to bend and reach.Ability to work in hot or cold environmentsAbility to work with a variety of chemicals, solvents, and understand/abide by the corresponding material safety data sheet, SDSCan bend, stoop, and twist repetitively throughout your entire shiftAbility to perform a task requiring continuous/repetitive movement, including grasping, pinching hands, flexing and extending armsFrequently lift and/or move up to 60 pounds.#LI-MB1PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSEducational Level/Certifications• Vocational Diploma, Technical Diploma or Associate's Degree from a technical maintenance or vocational school, a plus.Work Experience and Qualification• Ability to operate a forklift or scissor lift.
