Posting Details Posting Details Working Title Project Manager Position Number 01404A Department PLANNING/ESTIMATING Location Norfolk, VA Type of Position Classified Type of Job Full Time EEO Category B Professionals Job Description The incumbent will be responsible for project planning, management and execution to include design and construction of renovation projects, remodeling, maintenance reserve and other minor projects, facility condition assessments, monitoring and other general engineering services. Reports to work as directed during emergency closings. Type of Recruitment Knowledge, skills and abilities Considerable knowledge of operations and maintenance of institutional facilities including building and utility systems. Considerable understanding of design criteria and building codes.Considerable knowledge of facility design and design process, cost estimating, building codes, construction documents, construction materials and methods.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Effective negotiation skills.Proficiency in MS Word, Excel and MS Project.Demonstrated ability to manage all aspects of multiple design and construction projects. Well-developed capacity for analysis and evaluation of complex design, construction and code issues.Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate graphically and verbally with designers, engineers, contractors and shop mechanics and electricians.Demonstrated ability to manage numerous construction projects.Demonstrated ability to work well with others and project a professional image at all times. Special licenses, registration or certification Valid driver's license and insurable driving record. Education or training None Level and type of experience Considerable experience in architecture, engineering, construction management or a related discipline. Considerable experience in management of complex construction projects from design through delivery, including construction schedule and critical path analysis. Considerable experience in administration of construction budgets and experience in negotiation of construction change orders. Considerable experience in dealing with practitioners of major design disciplines. Additional Considerations (supplemental knowledge, skills, abilities, education, experience, licensure, certification) Virginia Professional Engineer License. Some experience in managing in complex design and construction projects. Some experience working in scheduling software such as Primavera, Suretrack or MS Project. Some experience working in web-based project management software such as eBuilder, PCS or CoConstruct. Completion of a 40 Hour OSHA Training Course. Some experience interacting with code officials in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Working proficiency in a range of Microsoft Office products including PowerPoint and Project. Professional registration, Certified Energy Manager and/or Project Management Professional (PMP). Conditions of Employment This position is designated as sensitive.
