Licensed Practical Nurse 4 On-Call Spokane Veterans Home Looking for an opportunity to get your foot in the door as a state employee? Located at the historic Spokane Veterans Home, there is only one opening available, so apply today! * This position has been posted within the assigned pay range through Step L. Step M has not been published as this is considered the longevity step, in alignment with state HR compensation rules. Position(s) at this location will also receive 5% Premium Pay for facilities open twenty-four hours per day. Employees must physically work at the facility 3 days per workweek to qualify. These locations provide Medicare and Medicaid nursing home care to Veterans, including, in some instances, their spouses, widows, or Gold Star Families. As a Licensed Practical Nurse 4, you'll provide direct resident care to vulnerable Veterans in need of skilled nursing care. This includes monitoring and recording all aspects of care, passing medications, dressing changes and treatment, etc. Your ability to promote resident-centered care will ensure our Veterans are treated with dignity and respect. Connect with your goals and change lives in accomplishing our mission of "Serving Those Who Served" with the Washington State Department of Veterans Affairs.Some of what you'll do: * Serve as the charge nurse for your assigned area; may act as a backup supervisor in absence of an RN. * Update and maintain MDS documentation. * Evaluate, prepare, and revise treatment plans for individual residents based on personal observations and recommendations of physicians, psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers and/or other nurses. * Pass medications, administer, monitor and record treatments and assess resident condition. * Suction patients, administer oxygen, catheterization, irrigation; administer IV and subcutaneous sites, colostomy and trach care, feeding tubes, pumps and other treatments as ordered. * Assist with routine rehabilitative and maintenance care. * Assist residents with positioning, transferring and ambulation. * Monitor and maintain a safe environment, including preventative infection control. Required: * Current, valid Washington State practical nursing license OR unencumbered multistate license. * Two (2) years of experience as a licensed practical nurse. * Capable of lifting up to 60 lbs. using proper techniques, capable of reaching for activities such as repositioning or to gain access to supplies, and is capable of pushing or pulling with sufficient strength. Preferred/Desired: * Long-term care experience. Special Requirements: * Must be able pass a DSHS BCCU Background Check every two (2) years in accordance with WDVA Policy 615.000 Background Checks. Information from the background check will not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant's suitability and competence to perform in the position. * Must comply with annual Tuberculin Screening in accordance with DVA policy 670.000 Tuberculosis Testing. * Requires medical evaluation, fit testing, training, and use of respiratory protection as required by the Washington Industrial Safety and Act standards. Must be able to wear a respirator, medical gloves, gowns, eye protection, and other personal protection as required by a job or task. * Must be able to lift up to 60 lbs. and be capable of reaching a minimum of 36" using proper technique to stock shelves and access supplies. Employee must also be able to push or pull with sufficient strength and walk, sit, and bend in an unrestricted manner during the entire workday. * Must maintain a valid practical nurse license and provide from the State of Washington Department of Health. * Positions requiring travel must have a valid unrestricted driver's license and must be insured if driving a privately owned vehicle on state business. * Candidates who are offered a job with WDVA must possess work authorization which does not require sponsorship by the employer for a visa now or in the future.
