We were originally designated in 2004 and re-designated in 2008, 2013, 2018, and 2023 by the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program that distinguishes nursing excellence both nationally and internationally. * Our Nurse Residency Program is designed to assist newly graduated Licensed Staff Nurses with the transition from nursing school to a confident, competent, Registered Nurse. The Nurse Residency Program at the University of Iowa is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education. * Through your first year as a Registered Nurse at UI Health Care you will receive additional support and training from the Nurse Residency Program Coordinator, Nurse Educators, and clinically experienced preceptors. * Monthly Resident Program classes/meetings will supplement your unit-based orientation with additional hands-on training, expert lectures and facilitator lead small group discussions. * The Residency classes provide didactic, evidence-based content essential to developing your clinical, inter-personal communication skills, and confidence in your practice. * In daily practice, the Staff Nurse will assess patients' nursing care needs, evaluate effectiveness of care provided, and integrate nursing theory and research into clinical practice. Staff will provide leadership to members of the nursing team in order to maintain patient care standards. Duties: * Applies nursing theory to the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of patient responses to health and illness. * Assesses patient health care preferences and expectations. * Collaboratively coordinates the continuum of care across settings. * Develops patient care plan based on patient condition, age, and psychological, educational, and socioeconomic conditions that prescribes interventions to attain expected outcomes. * Implements patient care plan according to patient priorities, which includes interventions identified through nursing diagnoses. Documents/reports interventions and patient/family response. * Collaborates and integrates contributions of patients and families into multidisciplinary patient care plan. * Develops, coordinates and implements transfer/discharge planning throughout episode of care. * Implements nursing interventions according to department, division, and/or unit policies, procedures, and protocols to maintain safe environment for patients, visitors and staff. Follows universal precautions. During your work experiences or academic nursing program have you earned any certifications (i.e. ACLS/PALS, CNA, etc) * Successful candidates will be required to self-disclose any conviction history and will be subject to a criminal background check and credential/education verification.
