OverviewThe Stephen A. Schwarzman Building is part of The New York Public Library, which consists of four major research libraries and 88 branch libraries located in the Bronx, Manhattan, and Staten Island. Often referred to as the "main branch," the Beaux-Arts landmark building on Fifth Avenue and 42nd Street houses outstanding research collections in the humanities and social sciences as well as a circulating children's collection. NYPL is seeking a Library Attendant Guard to maintain an environment that is safe and comfortable for our Library users and employees. The Library Attendant Guard is the first line of security at NYPL buildings. They will respond to emergencies, perform general security duties, and document unusual incidents. The Library Attendant Guard must work as a member of the Security team, act professionally and demonstrate courtesy and respect to all.ResponsibilitiesUnder the general supervision of an Assistant Security Supervisor, the Library Attendant Guard:Enforces the Library's rules of conduct for all patrons and visitors.Periodically tours building and grounds, examining doors and windows to determine whether they are secure and not tampered withConfronts unauthorized persons for questioning, and call for assistance from security office or police, according to the circumstancesEnsures that Library users, staff and other outside contractors adhere to the rules of security to prevent theft, fire, damage, and personal injuryProvide security presence at special events, including private screenings, parties, etc.Write comprehensive reports of incidents to assist with investigations and documentation of incidentsReports any unusual conditions or malfunctions in heating, plumbing, electrical or other parts of the buildings mechanical systems to facilities servicesUtilize Security Technology as part of the security strategyRequired to work at any assigned post and other NYPL facilities as neededPerforms related duties as required Overview The Stephen A. Responsibilities Under the general supervision of an Assistant Security Supervisor, the Library Attendant Guard: * Enforces the Library's rules of conduct for all patrons and visitors. * Periodically tours building and grounds, examining doors and windows to determine whether they are secure and not tampered with * Confronts unauthorized persons for questioning, and call for assistance from security office or police, according to the circumstances * Ensures that Library users, staff and other outside contractors adhere to the rules of security to prevent theft, fire, damage, and personal injury * Provide security presence at special events, including private screenings, parties, etc. * Write comprehensive reports of incidents to assist with investigations and documentation of incidents * Reports any unusual conditions or malfunctions in heating, plumbing, electrical or other parts of the buildings mechanical systems to facilities services * Utilize Security Technology as part of the security strategy * Required to work at any assigned post and other NYPL facilities as needed * Performs related duties as required Required Education, Experience & Skills Required Education & Certifications * High School Diploma or GED * 2+ years of prior security experience Required Experience * Associate Degree in Criminal Justice, Police Science, Security Management preferred * Experience in Law Enforcement or Military Service is desirable Required Skills * Good oral and written communication skills and ability to deal tactfully and effectively with staff and public * Ability to work at any assigned post * Must pass physical examination * Must have a valid New York State Security Guard Registration More...
