Summary: Supervises the activities of the phlebotomy staff in collecting blood and other specimens from patients for subsequent laboratory analysis. Provides service to in-patients, primary care patients and out-patients in extended care facilities or at satellite collection stations. Responsibilities: 1. Hires, orients, trains, develops, evaluates and disciplines the technical staff to build a team & assure quality of service. 2.Schedules the staff coverage, supervises and manages the daily operating systems to ensure efficient & effective service (within budget guidelines) as well as customer satisfaction. 3.Conducts staff meetings and continuing education/training sessions to educate staff, resolve problems & establish service improvement processes. 4 Arrange for purchase of supplies and maintains supply inventory to assure continuity of operations. 5.Prepares and maintains a procedure manual to use as a reference guide for providing service to assure consistency of operations. Implements work procedures & monitors activities to assure a safe environment for employees. 6. Approves and maintains paid time-off records to assure that employees are compensated as expected. 7. Supervises the specimen collection and patient registration at the Patient Service Centers as well as in-hospital specimen registration and orders. 8. Participates in the Quality Assurance program and department management meetings to promote continuous quality improvement. 8. Provides functional guidance to laboratory staff, nursing staff and physicians. 9. Achieves the organization's established expectations with regard to quality service, team work and self development. 10.Performs other duties as assigned. 11.Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position. Other information: Required: This position requires a formal education of Associate Degree and minimum of five years job-related experience. Desired: Certification in phlebotomy preferred.
