Min Hourly Rate $14.20 (Standard); $13.20 (Non-Urban); $15.45 (Portland Metro) Max Hourly Rate $21.00 (Standard); $18.50 (Non-Urban); $21.50 (Portland Metro) Position Summary This recruitment will be used to create a pool of part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) Student Technical Assistant positions for the Department of Animal and Rangeland Sciences at Oregon State University (OSU). The positions are based out of the off-campus Soap Creek Beef Ranch. Qualified applicants will be contacted as positions become available. The positions include animal care and maintenance of the facility and pastures, and may include research and data collection. Position Duties The role of this position is to assist the Beef Ranch manager in daily operations of the Soap and Berry Creek Beef Ranches. Duties include: * Feeding, watering, and caring for the animals and ensuring proper health is a top priority. * Collaboration with the farm manager and fellow student employees, as well as some individual work. * Keep a safe, clean, and organized environment for people and livestock. * Facility upkeep for the main beef ranches as well as other campus locations. * Build and repair fence. * Assist with cattle management including calving, vaccinating, and doctoring, as needed. * Assist with setting up for labs and research studies, as needed. * Drive ATVs and farm equipment, as needed. Minimum Qualifications Full Employment Eligibility Requirements can be found here: * Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study * Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment * Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard * High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program * Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term * Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term* * Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term * Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term* * International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered "full-time" by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center. Additional Required Qualifications * Must be dependable, possess a strong work ethic, and be able to work without supervision in a team setting. * Must possess strong communication skills and the ability to follow directions. * Have a willingness to learn and complete any and all assigned tasks. * This is an off-campus work location. The employee MUST have reliable transportation to the Soap Creek Ranch, located near Adair Village off Hwy 99W. This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per OSU Standard 576-055-0000 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months. This position requires driving a university vehicle or a personal vehicle on behalf of the university; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a motor vehicle history check, possess and maintain a current, valid driver's license in their state of residence, be determined to be position qualified and self-report convictions as per University Policy 05-030. Preferred (Special) Qualifications * Past experience that demonstrates the ability to work as a team * Experience working around or with cattle * Currently enrolled as a student at Oregon State University and/or dual enrolled with Linn Benton Community College Working Conditions / Work Schedule * This is an off campus facility, employee must have a reliable form of transportation. * Employee may have exposure to noxious odors, infectious diseases, chemicals, loud noises, slippery floors, and machinery. * Employee will be exposed to inclement weather conditions. * Employee will need to maneuver items that weigh up to 50 pounds. * Employee may be required to stoop, bend, and kneel to provide care of the animals. * Overnight shifts on rare occasion. * Employees are expected to work at least one weekend per month. * Employees work schedule will be set according to class schedule.
