Position Summary The Maintenance Facilities Technician (MFT) position provides maintenance and repair functions, janitorial duties and shelters upkeep. The position is designed to provide on-site services five (5) days per week, which may include weekends. Essential Functions + At the direction of the Facilities Supervisor, the MFT will support all maintenance, repair and construction work of the Shelters. + Have a working knowledge of electrical, plumbing, carpentry, air conditioning, painting, welding and general maintenance work. + Be able to take directions well, work on your own when needed, complete tasks in a timely manner, figure out a parts list and complete projects in a professional way. + Must be able to use a table saw, chop saw, skill saw, and other wood working equipment in a safe way + Must be able to climb ladders, walk roofs and perform jobs from scaffolding, when necessary. + Build a network of approved vendors and oversee all vendor operations and contacts. + Establish and implement cost effective methods to ensure facility is properly maintained; notify supervisor immediately with concerns or problems + Assist in documentation of repairs done, in house and contracted. Provide supervisor with reports as needed. + Assist Ambassadors in daily cleaning activities, such as dusting, mopping, trash/cardboard removal, etc. + Clean and restock all restrooms, showers and laundry areas daily + Keep all outside areas (including parking lot) free of trash and debris + Maintain grounds, including garden and yard upkeep, trimming, edging, mowing lawn, collecting trash, etc. + Maintain current inventories of all cleaning supplies, restocking as needed; notify supervisor when reorders are needed + Provide regular status reports to Facility Supervisor regarding issues resolved, those needing attention, and those currently in progress; report all incidents of property damage immediately Working Conditions Must be able to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis. Must be able to grasp, push and pull objects such as general office and small recreational equipment. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. Minimum Qualifications + 18 years or older + High School diploma or equivalent. + Criminal background check is required with certification for Protect the Mission policies and procedures. + Minimum one (1) year experience in maintenance; 2-5 years of work experience in the field of maintenance and constructions is preferred. + Experience working with those in addiction, mental illness or homeless preferred + Working knowledge of electrical, plumbing, carpentry, air conditioning, painting and general maintenance work. + Valid California driver's license, auto insurance and reliable transportation + Must be in good physical shape as the job requires lifting and moving furniture, working in tight spaces and working outside during the different seasons. + Ability to organize and safely maintain work areas to ensure compliance with all OSHA requirement Skills, Knowledge & Abilities + Working knowledge of Salvation Army policies, procedures and programs, as well as a compassionate understanding and adherence to Salvation Army ministry and mission. + Verifiable experience as a maintenance worker or other similar position, preferably in a shelter or residential setting + Capability to work both independently and within a team environment + Strong verbal and written communication skills Qualifications Education Required + High School or Equivalent or better Experience Required + - Working knowledge of electrical, plumbing, carpentry, air conditioning, painting and general maintenance work.
