FIRE AUTO & EQUIPMENT SPECIALIST Print (Apply  FIRE AUTO & EQUIPMENT SPECIALIST Salary $28.18 - $43.67 Hourly Location Clark County - Las Vegas, NV Job Type PERMANENT Job Number 26383X Department Fire Opening Date 09/24/2024 + Description + Benefits + Questions ABOUT THE POSITION The Clark County Fire Department is seeking qualified candidates to perform preventive maintenance and repair and overhaul of fire vehicles, heavy and light trucks, automobiles, fire equipment, small gasoline engines, stationary and similar equipment. This is a union contracted position and the starting rate of pay is $28.18. THE CLOSING DATE FOR THIS RECRUITMENT HAS BEEN CHANGED AND IS NOW REFLECTED IN THE JOB ANNOUNCEMENT. This is an open and continuous recruitment, scheduling dates will vary depending on when the application was received and reviewed by Human Resources. This examination will establish an Open Competitive Eligibility list to fill current and/or future vacancies that may occur within the next six (6) months or may be extended as needed by Human Resources. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Education and Experience: Equivalent to graduation from high school and successful completion of a recognized apprenticeship in heavy equipment and/or the automotive trade AND three (3) years of journey level experience in the maintenance and repair of vehicles and/or heavy construction equipment. Additional experience as outlined above may be substituted for the apprenticeship program on a year-for-year basis. Attendance at a recognized trade school is desirable. Qualifying education and experience must be clearly documented in the "Education" and "Work Experience" sections of the application. Working Conditions: May work outside in adverse weather conditions, extended shifts or be called back in emergency situations. Work with exposure to potentially hazardous environments, fuels, diesel exhaust, oils and solvents. Licensing and Certification: Must possess a valid Nevada Class C Driver's License with a Class F Endorsement (ability to drive fire apparatus equipment) or obtain the F Endorsement within one (1) year of appointment; OR possess a Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL). Must possess an ASE Master T-Series Technician Certification within one (1) year of appointment. Must obtain a Level 1 Fire Apparatus EVT Certification within one year of appointment. Specified positions may require possession of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements to road test and/or operate heavy duty vehicles and equipment. All required licenses and certifications must be maintained for the duration of employment. Medical Examination: Employment is contingent upon the results of a physical examination performed by our examining physician. Pre-Employment Drug Testing: Employment is contingent upon the results of a pre-employment drug examination. Note: it is a condition of employment that any fire services employee hired into the Fire Department after January 1, 1993, not use tobacco in any form. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES Performs complex troubleshooting and diagnostic work on fire vehicles, automobiles, fire and construction equipment and related rolling stock; provides technical assistance to mechanics and service workers. Diagnoses and performs major repairs and overhauls to engines, involving inspection and replacement of broken or worn parts such as pistons, piston rings, valves, bearings, fittings and gaskets. Diagnoses and repairs, cleans, adjusts and installs fuel, ignition, electrical and cooling systems involving repair and replacement of such parts as carburetors and fuel pumps, starter motors, distributors, generators, voltage regulators, wiring, switches, batteries, and radiators, thermostats and water pumps. Diagnoses and repairs and overhauls power transmission systems including such parts as clutches, standard transmissions, differential units, front and rear axles, gears, bearings, universal joints and hydraulic units; diagnoses and repairs and adjusts steering mechanisms and other controls. Road tests various vehicles; drives trucks or equipment as required; inspects vehicles in the shop and field; smog checks and certifies vehicles. Installs electrical and radio systems in vehicles as necessary; modifies such systems as required. Diagnoses and performs electrical, hydraulic and other repairs in the field. Performs preventive maintenance work on fire and construction equipment, fire vehicles, heavy trucks, street sweepers, automobiles, light trucks and other equipment. Reads and interprets manuals, drawings, and specifications; estimates labor, material and equipment and order parts required to complete assignments. Diagnoses, repairs and maintains vehicle air brakes, hydraulic systems and associated power take-off equipment. Observes safe work methods and utilizes safety equipment related to the work. Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team. Acts as the shop supervisor on a relief basis or as assigned. Operates heavy equipment and drives County and Fire department vehicles, trucks and equipment as required. Uses and performs minor maintenance on hand, power and shop tools and test equipment related to the work. Makes oral and written reports of work performed; completes forms and maintains accurate maintenance records using an automated fleet information system. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Mobility to work in a typical shop or related maintenance setting, including operating typical trade test equipment, hand and power tools and standard office equipment; stamina to stand, walk and climb and to work in confined or awkward spaces for an extended period of time; strength to lift and maneuver materials and equipment weighing up to 70 pounds with proper equipment; vision to read printed materials; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over a radio or telephone.
