Maintenance Mechanic, Grounds Department: Grounds Maintenance Location: Western Campus Reports To: Grounds & Maint Supervisor Recruitment Type: External/Internal Requisition ID: req4899 Employment Type: Full-Time Support Staff Union Position: Union Work Schedule: M-F 8:00AM -4:30PM Number of Openings: 1 Job Description: SUMMARY Performs duties and otherwise assists with the repair and maintenance of grounds equipment at assigned locations. May perform duties associated with the repair and maintenance of facilities. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: * *Inspect, repair and maintain grounds equipment including: automobiles, trucks, off road and mechanical equipment, vehicles, tractors, mowers, machinery, small engines, etc. * Complete welding projects and equipment repair using MIG, Stick, and/or TIG welders as well as cutting torches. * Promote preventive maintenance as a strategy for maintaining grounds equipment by developing and recommending preventive maintenance programs and schedules, instructing grounds employees on the proper methods of operation and upkeep of the equipment. Notify the Supervisor of signs of equipment abuse or neglect. * Operate the necessary equipment needed for these tasks including, but not limited to riding lawn mower, tractor, front end loader, back hoe, dump truck, roller, power sprayer, stump grinder, cherry picker, vehicle trailer and various other utility vehicles with attachments. * Operates all machinery and equipment necessary to perform duties. * Directs Maintenance Mechanic Helpers or Yard Maintenance Mechanic Helpers who assist in the completion of projects. * Meets all job safety requirements and all applicable OSHA safety standards that pertain to the essential functions of the position. * Maintain records for vehicle & equipment inspections, maintenance logs spare parts inventory and other pertinent documents. * Meet all job safety requirements and all applicable OSHA safety standards that pertain to the essential functions of the position. * Demonstrates regular attendance. * Accesses and utilizes College-prescribed software programs, including but not limited to training, email, payroll and maintenance management system. * Perform duties associated with the repair and maintenance of college facilities. * Performs other related duties as assigned. * denotes Essential Function QUALIFICATIONS Required * High School diploma or GED. * Five (5) years of work experience in a maintenance mechanic environment as a commercial/industrial Maintenance Mechanic - OR - a completed vocational or apprenticeship program. * Automobile & Light Truck Technician Certification from the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE Certification). Or five (5) years of experience repairing vehicles/light equipment. * Knowledge of all types of tools in the trade. * Ability to read and follow detailed work and safety instructions. * Ability to work independently. * Skills in keyboarding, basic math and grammar, and basic or standard word processing (MS Word) and/or spreadsheet applications (MS Excel). * Proficiency with an email software package (MS Outlook) and the Internet. * Valid Ohio Driver's license. * Must be able to meet College insurability requirements. * Must be at least 18 years of age. * Must have sensitivity to respond appropriately to the needs of a diverse population. Preferred * Associate's degree in a job-related field. * Ability to direct a small work crew. * Experience with electronic work order system. * Understanding/experience with quality programs and initiatives. * Trade licensure or certification. * LTO (Lift-Truck-Operator) license. * Welding Certification * Commercial Pesticide Applicator licensure. WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS Must be able to occasionally sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, taste and smell. Must be able to frequently stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds without assistance. Must be able to occasionally work in wet or humid conditions, work in high precarious places, work with fumes or airborne particles, toxics or caustic chemicals, work in extreme cold and heat (non-weather) and work with risk of electrical shock, vibration and bio-hazards. Must be able to regularly work near moving mechanical parts and in outdoor weather conditions. Must be able to work in an environment with a loud noise level.
