Salary: $34,125.00 AnnuallyLocation : Isle of Wight, Virginia 23397Job Type: Full-timeJob Number: 1Department: Public UtilitiesOpening Date: 10/16/2024Closing Date: ContinuousDescription The Utility Clerk I performs a variety of clerical support work for the Utility Collection Division. Examples of Duties Provides clerical support for the department; processes a variety of documentation associated with department operations within designated timeframes and per established procedures; receives and responds to inquiries; composes and types correspondence; types materials from draft and/or handwritten copies; processes outgoing mail.Retrieve payments or other correspondence from Utility Night Drop box. Open and distribute as needed.Answers incoming telephone calls; provides information and assistance; records/relays messages or directs calls to appropriate personnel; initiates and returns calls as necessary.Performs customer service functions; provides assistance and information related to utility billing, accounts, services, fees, payments, procedures, documentation, or other issues; research account problems and ensures payments are credited to proper accounts; responds to routine questions/complaints and initiates problem resolution.Receives money in payment of utility billing or other fees/services; calculates taxes, penalties, and interest; processes and records transactions; balances daily receipts with monies collected.Prepares service orders for field managers for the purpose of reading meters, turning service on and off, the installation of meters and coordinates with the building officials when to do so. Collects and processes Tap fees for new water and sewer connection for new service.Prepares daily balance of receipts, and compiles payments for deposit to the County treasurer.Makes account adjustments as necessary and appropriate.Processes monies received from other county departments; compares payments with statements and identifies discrepancies.Observe all approved safety and health policies and procedures pertaining to his/her work activities and perform all work tasks in a safe and healthy manner in accordance with County policy.Performs other assigned duties.PHYSICAL DEMANDS:Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Requires the use of fingers, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, talking, visual acuity, and walking.Required Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent.Related college classwork or previous customer service work experience. Supplemental Information Please Note: All County employees may be required to report to serve our customers during emergency conditions. While some will perform their regular duties, others may be assigned to report at a different time and location and to perform different duties from their regular jobs. Employees will either be deemed essential personnel and provide services that must continue regardless of or pursuant to a state of emergency or will be deemed nonessential personnel that will be required to report to work in an emergency if they receive an assignment to shelter duty or other duty.This position is benefits eligible.
