Job Description Summary Repairs and troubleshoots computerized underground lawn sprinkler systems. Minor installations may be required. Also performs a variety of manual duties in the development and maintenance of the grounds, drives, walks, and parking areas of the designated off-campus properties. Job Description Essential Functions: Landscaping â— Repairs and inspects lines, valves, and sprinklers on computerized, underground lawn sprinkler systems. â— Sets and maintains times on computer and electronic valve clocks. Troubleshoots computerized electronic systems, irrigation controllers, solenoid values, and sprinkler heads of all types. â— May instruct others in minor irrigation repairs. â— May operate various snow removal equipment and shovel snow and ice from designated areas. â— Keeps campus grounds, walks, and drives clean by removing trash, garbage, and other debris. â— Responsible for the seeding, fertilizing, planting, watering, weeding, trimming, and grooming of lawns, shrubbery and trees. â— Operates and handles various types of grounds maintenance equipment to include, but not limited to: power mowers, edgers, and power blowers. â— Operates light or medium weight trucks to pick up and deliver materials and supplies. â— Operates light or medium tractors and attachments used to maintain grounds as required. â— Loads and unloads furniture and other material; transports to designated locations utilizing various equipment, as needed. â— Assists in the preparation of fields for special events. â— Performs a variety of semi-skilled manual duties requiring a basic understanding and knowledge of techniques, tools and equipment and safety precautions. â— Make certain that equipment and vehicles are inspected daily to ensure that they are in safe and proper working order. â— Works in an efficient, productive manner with no supervision. â— Reports all matters of safety to the Operations Manager, Landscape Services and the Safety Manager, if necessary. â— Is considered an essential employee as designated in the Facilities & Campus Services Severe Weather Policy. â— Follows all University and departmental policies and procedures. â— Performs other related duties, as assigned. * The University considers a consistently positive, cooperative, self-motivated, courteous and professional attitude to be an essential function of every position. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma with 3 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: â— Knowledge of grounds maintenance and turf equipment operations preferred. â— Knowledge of computerized systems and time clocks, electrical wiring, and wire functions. â— Knowledge of underground lawn sprinkler repair and installation techniques and the design and redesign of irrigation systems. â— Knowledge of mechanical maintenance including electrical and plumbing. â— Skilled in the use of computers, specifically in a Windows environment. â— Demonstrated skill in math sufficient to figure pipe flows, gallons, pipe sizing, friction losses, run times, systems efficiency, and spacing and head selections. â— Ability to read blueprints. â— Good communication and customer service skills. â— Valid driver's license with a good driving record; must be insurable. â— Basic understanding and knowledge of techniques, tools and equipment and safety precautions required. â— Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures, as required. Accountabilities: Foreperson, Off Campus Properties Physical Requirements: Ability to do all of the following frequently: â— Medium work: exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. â— Physical activities: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, and repetitive motions. â— Visual acuity: The worker is required to have visual acuity to operate motor vehicles, heavy equipment, and machinery. The worker is also required to have a visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of work assigned. â— Working conditions: Activities occur both indoors and outdoors, subject to both environmental conditions.
