THIS POSTING IS FOR SEASONAL EQUIPMENT OPERATOR II - SNOW PLOW DRIVERS. Permanent Equipment Operator II will be posted separately if/when needed. Operates salt spreader and heavy trucks with plow attachments for snow removal and ice control purposes. When not operating equipment, participates in and/or leads workcrew activity. Performs related work as required. A minimum of one year of paid experience in operating moderately complex automotive equipment, or successful completion of the City's CDL Training Program. Possession of a valid State of Ohio Commercial Driver's License, Class B, with no air brake restriction. Knowledge of and skill in the effective and safe operation of City-owned moderately complex automotive equipment in traffic and in and around workcrew areas. Knowledge of the component parts of such equipment, the performance limits, and the preventative maintenance necessary to keep equipment in satisfactory operation. Knowledge of the traffic laws of the State of Ohio and the City of Akron. Ability to lift up to 80 pounds. Ability to communicate effectively with coworkers, supervisors and the general public. Ability to read and write and to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to perform a variety of laboring tasks. Ability to work in adverse weather conditions. Ability to effectively lead workcrew activities. Ability to safely operate motor vehicles and construction equipment. List of essential job functions available upon request. This is a classified position. The candidates will be ranked in a standard manner based on information, records, and other data related to the candidate's ability to perform the duties of the position. If your name is placed on the eligibility list, your name will remain on the eligibility list for one year unless you are removed in accordance with Human Resource policy or hired for a permanent position. Candidates must meet the qualifications and requirements listed in the announcement at the time of examination and at the time of appointment. RESIDENCY: Candidates who have been resident citizens within the corporate limits of the City of Akron for at least one year immediately prior to the examination and who continue to reside within the corporate limits of the City of Akron throughout the remainder of the selection process will have 5 points added to their passing grades. VETERANS: A veteran of the Armed Forces of the United States, honorably discharged from active duty, desiring a bonus of 5 points added to his/her passing grade, must submit proof of discharge in the form of a DD-214 with application. COMMERCIAL DRIVER'S LICENSE: An applicant having a valid Commercial Driver's License from another state will be accepted conditionally provided that, if selected, an Ohio Commercial Driver's License must be obtained prior to appointment. Candidates having six or more points on their driving record at the time of appointment will be disqualified from further consideration.
