The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Assistant Transportation Engineer in the Public Works Department! In this role, you will have the opportunity to work in a dynamic, supportive, and exciting environment on a variety of safety-centric projects and programs including neighborhood traffic calming, safety evaluation of roadways and intersections, analysis of traffic survey data, responding to residents requests on traffic issues, and support Complete Streets project teams. You'll provide professional and technical staff assistance in the areas of traffic engineering and transportation, and may sign off on engineering specifications and plans. See the full job class specification here: A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is equivalent to graduation from a four year college or university with major coursework in civil or traffic engineering and two (2) years of professional traffic/transportation engineering experience. Progressively responsible related experience may be substituted for the college coursework on a year-for-year basis. Must be able to travel to various locations within and outside the City of Berkeley to meet the program needs and to fulfill the job responsibilities. When driving on City business, the incumbent is required to maintain a valid California driver's license as well as a satisfactory driving record.
