UPPER ARLINGTON CITY SCHOOLS Position: Transportation Aide Pay range: $21.28-$23.38 p/hour Times: 4 Hours Per Day 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. (subject to change) 2:15 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. (subject to change) Reports to: Teresa Seward, Director ofTransportation Employment Status: Regular/Part-time FLSA Status: Non-exempt Description: Help children safely board the bus. Help special needs children into their seats. Make sure wheelchairs, seat belts, car seats, and booster seats are installed correctly. Cope with behaviorally impaired children Probationary Period: 120 work days NOTE: The below lists are not ranked in order of importance Qualifications: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) Less than one year related experience Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Board of Education may find appropriate Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to work effectively with others Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively both orally and in writing Effective, active listening skills Organizational and problem solving skills Ability to have full control with bus discipline at all times Knowledge of basic first aid Ability to read and understand verbal and written instructions, written warnings and labels Ability to be patient and understanding Essential Functions: Help maintain positive control over the students transported on the school bus Observe mandatory safety regulations for school buses Help maintain pupil control and report any violations to the proper authorities as prescribed Notify the supervisor in case of illness so as to permit time to secure a substitute Promote good public relations by personal appearance, attitude, conversation, and the clean/orderly appearance of the school bus Maintain respect at all times for confidential information, e.g., student medical records, etc. Make contacts with the public with tact and diplomacy Interact in a positive manner with staff, students and parents Attend meetings and in-services as required Serve as a role model for students Other Duties and Responsibilities: Report all accidents and complete required reports Enforce applicable Board policies Attend bus driver meetings and be available in the event of emergency dismissal Conduct rear door emergency evacuation drills Respond to routine questions and requests in an appropriate manner Perform other duties as assigned Equipment Operated: Wheelchairs, child car and booster seat mechanisms, child restraint (harness) Additional Working Conditions: Frequent exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissue Frequent interaction among unruly children Occasional extensive sitting, up to 2 hours at a time Frequently move around workspace and travel throughout school building Frequently move and position self as necessary to access and operate equipment Occasional requirement to lift and carry up to a maximum of 65 pounds Occasional requirement to push and pull up to a maximum of 300 pounds (on wheels) Occasional overtime work will be requested and expected of the employee Employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance, use in the workplace throughout his/her employment with the District.
