POSTING DATE: 10/15/2024 SALARY RANGE: $40,669.00 - $44,233.00 ANNUALLY BACKGROUND CHECK Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment to positions identified as positions of trust will be required to complete authorization for a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint must be successfully completed. PROBATION All persons, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a mandatory 6-month probation. ELIGIBILITY Qualified candidates will be considered for vacancies as they arise, for a period of at least six months. The decision of the Director of Human Resources with respect to acceptable minimum qualifications is final. EDUCATION ACCREDITATION Applicants' education must be obtained from an accredited institution. Education credentials obtained out of the US must be evaluated for US equivalency. CLASS DESCRIPTION An Automotive Maintenance Worker performs safety checks on vehicles and assists mechanics in performing installation, maintenance and repair work on cars and trucks. Work of this class involves no supervisory duties or responsibilities. Incumbents receive close supervision from a technical superior. Employees in this class work shift and weekend work and are subject to call-back. Work is performed in an automotive shop where dirty, greasy shop conditions and fumes are regularly encountered. Work requires moderate physical exertion. SELECTION PROCESS All candidates indicating the minimum qualifications on their applications will be placed on the eligible list without further examination. The training and experience of each candidate will be evaluated for appropriateness and quantity. It is essential, therefore, that you give complete and accurate information on your application. MINIMUM QUALIFICATION On or before the date of filing the application, each candidate must: EXPERIENCE: Have one year of experience in automotive maintenance or repair work. OR EQUIVALENCY NOTES: Have completion of one year of the required coursework in an automotive mechanic curriculum in an accredited high school or vocational school may be substituted for six months of the experience requirement. LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATES: Have a valid Maryland Class C Noncommercial driver's license or an equivalent driver's license and eligible to obtain a Baltimore City driver's permit. PROVISIONAL DRIVER'S LICENSE ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE. NOTE: YOU MUST UPLOAD A COPY OF YOUR VALID DRIVER'S LICENSE WITH APPLICATION AT TIME OF APPLYING. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES * Knowledge of the tools used in automotive maintenance work. * Ability to drive safely. * Ability to perform minor maintenance work on vehicles. * Ability to follow instruction EXAMINATION PROCESS Applicants must provide sufficient information on their application to show that they meet the minimum qualifications for this recruitment.
