The Role The Maintenance Technician is responsible for ensuring the effective upkeep and repair of facilities and group homes. This role includes performing electrical work, plumbing, and carpentry. In addition to addressing immediate maintenance needs, the technician is also tasked with establishing and maintaining a comprehensive preventative maintenance program to improve the quality, safety, and appearance of all properties under their care. Essential Work Duties * Completes all requested maintenance work daily. Alert management of extraordinary requests. * Follow up and through on all assignment and activities relating to electrical, plumbing, appliance repair, and carpentry. Provide detailed reports to management. * Assures that all facilities and equipment are properly maintained and in good, safe working order, and that all necessary preventive maintenance work be performed on a timely basis with adequate record keeping and communication to management and customers. * Assists in movement of furniture, materials and equipment as required. * Drives an assigned vehicles as required and maintains security of all assigned equipment and maintenance tools. Responsibilities * Protect the rights and dignities of individuals with developmental disabilities and extend these rights and dignities to family members or guardians. * Upholds and complies with all safety programs and policies to maintain a safe work environment for employees, consumers, family members and visitors. * Commits to organizational quality initiatives by participating in programs that will assure quality improvements and team processes, including regular attendance at staff meetings. * On call seven days a week for emergency only. Rotating on-call weekends. * Perform other duties as directed by the supervisor related to the organizations mission, goals and operations. Experience and Skills * High school education or equivalent with a minimum of two years experience in building maintenance. * General knowledge of all power tools: saws, drills, air tools, etc. * Must have strong mechanical background and independent abilities in electrical, carpentry, and plumbing. * Outstanding customer service skills with good team and quality improvement skills. * Knowledge of safe equipment operation, and safe and proper use of tools is essential. * Must have valid drivers license, safe driving record, automobile insurance. Internal/External Relationships Internal: frequently all employee levels External: occasionally MHRH Representatives, fire department and outside contractors. Working Conditions Work inside or outside under all weather conditions depending on needs of the job. General knowledge of all power tools: saws, drills, air tools, etc. Required to wear personal protective equipment when needed. Physical and Mental Requirements Must be flexible and resourceful in areas that deal with maintenance issues with the ability to take direction and to self-initiate and perform job independently. Must be able to bend, stoop, climb, lift heavy objects, stand, sit for long periods of time and able to perform physically all that is required to complete essential functions of this role. Works on assignments moderately complex in nature where judgment is required in resolving problems and making routine recommendations. Normally receives no instruction on routine work and general instruction on new assignments. Must be task orientated and possess basic writing and verbal skills. Must be physically capable of lifting over 100lbs.
