Experience working with school age children. Ability to read and write English. Ability to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to solve problems. Ability to effectively communicate with students, parents, and staff. Ability to work directly with students in an appropriate and professional manner and give direction as needed. Must meet Highly Qualified requirements for Paraprofessionals as defined by NCLB or willing to obtain. ESSENTIAL DUTIES INCLUDE, BUT NOT LIMITED TO: Assist driver in operation of lifts for wheelchairs and assisting disabled students. Assist driver in maintaining good student conduct on bus. Assist driver in securing any special equipment that may accompany students. Assist driver in being alert to any conditions in loading area that may present a danger to students. Communicate appropriately with driver, students, parents, and other employees. Performs such other functions and duties as may be assigned by the Transportation Supervisor and/or his/her designee.
