The National Building Museum inspires curiosity about the world we design and build. Through exhibitions, educational programs, and special events, we welcome all ages to experience stories about the built world and its power to shape our lives, communities, and futures. Position Description The National Building Museum is currently seeking two graduate-level interns to continue an inventory of the Museum's Northwestern Terra Cotta collection. The Northwestern Terra Cotta collection consists of over 60,000 architectural drawings dating from 1900 to 1956. The drawings are all organized by date and project but the drawings from 1926 to 1956 need to be inventoried and rehoused in new folders and flat file drawers. The inventory project is the beginning of a three year grant funded effort to fully catalogue, digitize and conserve the collection. Hours of position are flexible, but must occur on Monday - Thursday; between 9:00am and 4:00pm. The dates of this internship assignment are January - May 2025, with a requirement of 15-20 hours per week. Interns will be provided with a $3,000 stipend for their work on this project. We will also work with your graduate program to ensure you receive academic credit for your work, if possible. Essential Duties and Responsibilities * Collaborate with Collections Manager and Senior Registrar to organize, (re)catalogue, and photograph new acquisitions: * Undergo object handling training * Undergo cataloging training and review * Enter data into excel spreadsheets for bulk upload into the Museum's collections management database and collections website. * Research into the history and use of specific tools, as needed. * Other duties as assigned. Qualifications * Candidates must be enrolled in or a recent graduate of a graduate program. * Previous experience with museum collections preferred. * Knowledge of collections management databases, preferably PastPerfect. * Knowledge of proper archival and collections management techniques. * Self-starter that can work independently. * Be creative and a problem solver. * Ability to work well in a team environment.
