Click on the link to learn more about Evonik from our employees: The Maintenance Mechanic supports plant production through the maintenance of mechanical and electrical systems throughout the site. The successful candidate will participate within a team to perform preventative maintenance and repairs as needed to optimize production time and ultimately meet customer requirements for plant products. Reliability, cost reduction and productivity improvement. Good communication and safety skills. Responsibilities: * Perform a variety of skilled maintenance trade functions including electrical, pipefitting, welding, gearbox, pump, packaging equipment repair, equipment alignments, carpentry, painting, sheet-metal work, and minor instrumentation. * Repair, install and maintain all plant equipment, buildings, utilities, and services utilizing mechanical skills * Must become knowledgeable with and observe all plant safety requirements and lock-out procedures. * Assist and advise operations personnel in their performance of minor maintenance duties. * Must become familiar with state-of-the-art precipitated silica manufacturing equipment much of which incorporates foreign (German) design and technology. * Must be capable of arc, heli-arc and primarily Tungsten Inert Gas (T.I.G.) welding. * Other welding skills required, include the ability to glue and weld plastic pipes (PVC, PE, PP) in addition to those normally associated with traditional processing equipment. * Much of the equipment and related source material is of foreign design and manufacture requiring the knowledge of the metric system and of utmost importance, the ability to distinguish between the two. * Develop and maintain inventory of repair parts and equipment. * Communicate with plant supervisory personnel to keep inventory current. * Develop and maintain Preventive Maintenance Program. Requirements: * High School Diploma required, Mechanical Vocational Training, or similar degree is a plus * 3 years industrial mechanic experience * Some experience pipe fitting welding and previously work with 480 volt systems preferred * Shift work required as necessary and to be determined at management's discretion.
