Title: Field Technology Specialist: Central Administration #ED023 State Role Title: Info Technology Specialist II Hiring Range: $56,052 - $91,922 Pay Band: 5 Agency: Dept of Corr - Central Admin Location: DOC Headquarters Agency Website: Recruitment Type: General Public - G Job Duties This position provides services in the Central Region of Virginia that includes Buckingham. The other vacancy is for the Western Region that includes the Christiansburg area. The person selected for this position will have a base point in that area of Virginia and must be prepared to promptly respond to Technology service requests. Work assignments may occasionally include areas outside of those above mentioned. The Field Technology Services team is seeking someone with strong technical skills to manage, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and update software, hardware, and networking as necessary to support the Virginia Department of Corrections' (VADOC) education, programs, & operations efforts for VADOC sites and facilities. Field Technology Specialist provides technical advice, guidance, and implementation of complex work items involving educational and DOC Operations software products such as AZTEC, Lexis Nexis, GED Academy, Auto CAD, Teknimedia, Alexandria, Elevate and similar software packages. Provides technical support of complex work problems involving computer technology to include workstation and server hardware, software and operating systems, networking hardware, software and infrastructure, and various operating systems software. Responsibilities include independently installing, updating and management of applications and hardware throughout VADOC. Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma. Considerable experience working in the computer support field. Considerable and recent experience with desktop, server & network set up, installation, and support/maintenance is required. A combination of desktop, server and network support is required. Working experience with installation, support, and troubleshooting for windows operating systems like Win10 and Server Operating Systems like Server 2016/2019 is required with associated products and components to include but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite, Active Directory etc. Experience with rapid discovery exercises, rapid proof of concepts and prototyping/pilots, small-scale pilots and incremental updates and continuous improvement. The selected candidate must be able to perform with minimal direct supervision and may be required to use their home as a base of operation. This position is the technician for a number of facilities throughout the state, and will function in a capacity to ensure that hardware and software configurations are standardized and assigned work is appropriately prioritized and delivered. Advanced knowledge of computer software including operating systems and database programs. Knowledge of administrative and office management principles and practices. Understanding of initial discovery, incremental delivery, and continuous improvement principles and practices. Understanding of project management principles (Agile Concepts, Practices, and Delivery). Experience working independently in a fast-paced delivery environment, ability to independently think through issues, and identify root causes and formulate potential solutions, ability to deconstruct, isolate and identify critical from the non-critical or non-urgent parking lot items rapidly and independently. Ability to identify problems along with solution recommendations (immediate, short, or long term with clearly thought through pros and cons). Ability to set up, install and troubleshoot and resolve issues with network devices, desktop hardware, various operating systems, and associated software in a LAN/standalone environment, and networked environment. Ability to effectively plan completion and delivery of tasks and items assigned with minimal rework. Ability to work effectively in a both a team and independent environment..
