About Our Job Denver Parks & Recreation's Forestry and Natural Resources division is seeking two Seasonal Natural Resource Utility Workers to support Denver Mountain Parks. These positions will perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled duties in the management of city and county open space and forests, including noxious weed management, ecological restoration, fuels reduction, forest management planning, and many other forestry/natural resources tasks. These are on-call positions that will work no more than 39 hours per week and are not eligible for benefits. On-call positions may have routine or variable work schedules. These positions will report to Mountain Parks HQ -- 300 Union Ave., Morrison, CO 80465. These positions will work Monday - Friday, 7:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m. The starting pay for this position is $18.75/hour. Job duties and responsibilities of these positions include, but are not limited to, the following: * Vegetation and noxious weed management: performing plant health care tasks/maintenance, planting, removals, chemical applications of pesticides and fertilizers * Operate, maintain, and perform minor repairs on equipment used in vegetation management including backpack sprayers and UTV mounted sprayers; Mix, load, and apply herbicides in a safe and efficient manner * Operate a chainsaw for thinning, firewood, insect/disease, and fire mitigation * Perform cruising and data collection for forest-wide inventory * Assist with fire mitigation and forest health service contract layout and management including cruising, boundary delineation, and marking * Operate various GPS and GIS applications * Perform general labor including fence, facility, and equipment maintenance About You We are seeking self-motivated individuals who are team players and are looking to expand their forestry experience. Additionally, our ideal candidates will have: * A degree or coursework completed toward a degree in natural resources management, environmental science, ecology, forestry, or another related field * Native and invasive plant species identification * Forestry field experience * Tree species identification experience * Technical report writing and editing skills * Strong attention to detail and excellent time management and organizational skills * Good written and verbal communication skills * Ability to operate a 4-wheel drive vehicle in variable weather and road conditions * Pesticide applicators license or ability/desire to attain license * Ability or willingness to learn to operate chainsaws, logging equipment, and other forestry equipment * Ability and willingness to perform strenuous outdoor work in a variety of weather conditions * National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) S-130/190 Wildfire training * NWCG Wildland Fire Chainsaws Training S-212 We realize your time is valuable so please do not apply if you do not have at least the following required minimum qualification: * Education: None * Experience: None * License/Certification(s): Requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application.
