Job SummarySupports, and is responsible for incorporating into job performance, the Frederick Health (FH) mission, vision, core values and customer service philosophy and adheres to the FH Compliance Program, including following all regulatory requirements and the FH Standards of Behavior.The Release of Information Clerk is responsible for controlling the release of protected medical information from patient medical records in accordance with regulatory requirements, hospital policies and procedures, federal and state statutes. Must handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment in order to meet customer needs in a timely manner. Interacts daily with other departments, physicians and other office staff, patients, attorneys, and insurance companies. Example of Essential Functions:Retrieval and pickup of daily mailEnters completed authorizations into the vendor's electronic tracking systemProcesses fax requests for continuing care and patient walk in requestsScans and indexes completed authorizations and documents into the electronic health record system.Review of subpoenas and legal requests delivered to the departmentPrioritizes tasks to ensure deadlines are met.Serves as backup for Custodian of Records as it pertains to court appearancesAssists customers with patient portal and patient proxy access.Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Working knowledge of computer keyboard and typing abilityGood organizational skills with attention to detail.Ability to alphabetize names and sequence numbers.Ability to use computer terminal for prolonged periods.Ability to work in an environment that is conducive to frequent distractions and interruptions.Ability to work under time constraints.Good public relations, customer service, and communication skills.Excellent phone etiquette.Good judgment when dealing with others.Good decision-making and problem-solving skills.Minimum Education, Training, and Experience Required:High School diploma or GED with emphasis on basic clerical training which includes computer skills, basic filing and fundamental knowledge of office procedures. An Associate's Degree in Medical Office Technology, Medical Office Systems, Medical Secretarial Science, Health Information Technology or related field is preferred.Medical terminology preferred; working knowledge of computer keyboard and typing ability required.Minimum of two years' experience in office setting required, healthcare setting preferred.Patient ContactMust demonstrate and maintain current knowledge and skills in providing appropriate care/contact for patients in the following age groups:Performance of job does not require patient contactPhysical Demands:Sedentary - Light Work - Lifting up to 15 pounds on an infrequent basis (less than one lift every three minutes).
