About Us: Carmel Restaurant, located in the heart of Los Angeles' vibrant Melrose neighborhood, offers a Mediterranean-inspired menu with a focus on seasonal ingredients and creative presentation. We are seeking an experienced and knowledgeable Sommelier to join our team. Job Summary: We are looking for a skilled and charismatic Sommelier to manage our wine program, provide exceptional service to our guests, and contribute to the overall success of our restaurant. The ideal candidate will possess extensive wine knowledge, excellent communication skills, and a passion for delivering outstanding customer experiences. Responsibilities: Manage and maintain Carmel Restaurant's wine list, ensuring it remains relevant, diverse and appealing to our clientele. Provide expert wine recommendations to guests, considering their preferences and menu choices. Develop and maintain relationships with wine suppliers, distributors and local wine makers. Conduct wine tastings and training sessions for staff to enhance wine knowledge. Collaborate with the culinary team to create wine pairings and menus for special events. Manage wine inventory, ordering and storage. Ensure compliance with wine service standards, policies and procedures. Assist with wine list updates, menu printing and wine-related marketing materials. Participate in wine events, tastings and educational seminars. Provide exceptional service, ensuring high guest satisfaction. Requirements: Advanced wine knowledge (Certified Sommelier or WSET Diploma preferred). 2+ years of sommelier experience in a fine dining restaurant. Excellent communication, interpersonal and customer service skills. Strong organizational, time management and multitasking abilities. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and maintain composure under pressure. Familiarity with wine inventory management software. Ability to lift 50 pounds and stand for long periods.
