5 days per week, M-F 8 hours per day: 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM; 260 days/yr (includes 13 paid holidays) Date range: 10/17/2024 - 12/23/2024 Remuneration: $30.72 Benefits: Will not meet the minimum total hours to qualify for benefits. Retirement: Will not meet the minimum total hours to qualify for retirement. JOB DUTIES: Perform skilled grounds work to maintain and repair the areas with minimum supervision. EDUCATION: Minimum educational requirement is a High School diploma or GED certificate. Related vocational or technical training in Grounds and/or Maintenance preferred. EXPERIENCE: Minimum one year relevant General Maintenance and/or Grounds Work experience required. At District discretion, education and/or training may replace required work experience. DUTIES: May include, but are not limited to: * Perform grounds work such as seeding, laying sod, mowing, striping, fertilizing; raking and sweeping leaves; pulling, hoeing and cutting weeds; pruning, applying pesticides and fertilizing trees and shrubs. Snow removal and repair drainage in order to preserve grounds in a healthy, attractive and safe condition. * Prepare grounds and athletic fields for the purpose of providing adequate attractive and safe areas for assemblies, student athletic events and/or outdoor educational activities. * Perform skilled maintenance and repair work to facilities with minimum supervision. * Assist with projects in the areas of carpentry, painting, plastering, plumbing, roofing, mechanical, electrical, glazing, locks and asphalt as assigned. * Perform skilled maintenance and repair work, with minimum supervision, on equipment such as mowers, vehicles and various small equipment as assigned. * Monitor condition of playground and sporting equipment for safety; inspect and repair equipment as necessary. * Safely operate power equipment such as tractors, trucks (one ton or less), mowers, sweepers, trimmers and other equipment as required. * Transport various items (i.e. tools, equipment, supplies, dumpsters, sand, shavings, rocks, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of materials required at job sites and/or other District activities. * Evaluate grounds and facilities for necessary preventative maintenance to remove hazards, prevent flooding and erosion, maintain safety and report such to supervisor. * Advise supervisor of inventory needs to ensure continuity of service and safe conditions. * Implement and follow established safety procedures. * Establish and maintain a protected, organized work area/environment including the work site, vehicles, tools and equipment, and interaction with staff, students, and public to ensure the utmost in safety. * Direct the work of helpers as assigned. * Respond to emergency situations involving maintenance, grounds and operations. * Notify appropriate authority immediately in event of any incident or unsafe condition on school properties. * Respond to any accident/unsafe condition to ensure immediate safety. * Perform physical tasks, including repeated lifting of a minimum of 75 pounds and standing for extended periods. * Perform related duties as required to ensure safe environments for staff, students and community. KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE, AND ABILITIES: * Ability to communicate and carry out District/building rules, regulations and procedures. * Possess competent record keeping skills. * Possess computer skills/experience. * Possess competent organizational skills. * Possess effective communication skills. * Ability to problem-solve as needed. * Ability to work with others as part of a team and maintain a positive attitude. * Ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with students, parents, staff and the general public. * Ability to read, write and compute per needs of position. * Ability to work independently in maintenance and grounds, under the technical direction of the Maintenance and Operations Supervisor. * Ability to maintain confidentiality with regard to student and staff matters. * Physical ability to be on feet for extended periods of time, and work outdoors in all types of weather. Complete heavy physical labor including frequent lifting and carrying a minimum of 75 pounds of bulky supplies and equipment; ability to work on ladders and utilize high-lift. * Job function requires significant physical demands in lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling, some climbing and balancing, frequent stopping, bending, kneeling, crouching and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. * Knowledge and/or experience in area of facility maintenance to include grounds, fields, playgrounds and parking areas. * Knowledge and/or experience in a variety of skilled maintenance duties such as artificial turf, carpentry, painting, plastering, plumbing, roofing, mechanical and electrical. * Knowledge, experience and ability to safely operate and make basic repairs of various types of power equipment, tools and vehicles necessary to complete a wide variety of tasks. (Gas, electric, pneumatic and battery operated.) * Ability to maintain a safe and orderly work environment. * Demonstrate pride in the appearance of buildings and grounds and promote that pride with students, staff and the public. * Ability to multi-task while working in the presence of students, staff and community. * Evidence of progressively increasing skills in maintenance and grounds-related fields. * Ability to attend pertinent technical training seminars/courses as directed. * Ability to update skills as required. * Consistent, reliable attendance according to established work schedule is required. * Demonstrate proficiencies as assessed by District skills inventory. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: * Possess valid Driver's License. * Possess current First Aide/CPR card (or eligible to receive upon employment). * Possess current Washington State Department of Agriculture Pesticide Application License (or eligible to receive training).
