BASIC PURPOSE OF THE JOB Transports patients by stretcher, wheelchair or other conveyance from pre/post operative locations. Responsible for monitoring and responding to patients and families during transportation phase. REPORTS TO * Nurse Manager JOB REQUIREMENTS Supervisory Responsibilities: NO Minimum Education: High School Diploma/GED Preferred License/Certification Required: Must obtain BLS within 90 days of hire Minimum Work Experience: 6 months experience or training preferred REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES * Must demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills. * Must be able to interpret and document information accurately. * Must demonstrate effective organizational and prioritization skills as well as the ability to maintain productivity with interruptions. * Must be able to effectively deal with a variety of individuals and hospital systems. * Medical terminology preferred. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES * Transports patients by stretcher, wheelchair or other conveyance to/from pre/post operative locations. Responsible for monitoring and responding to patients and families during transportation phase. Accurately recognizes high-risk patients that require RN transport as identified by policy. * Transfers patients efficiently and safely to and/or from all areas of the hospital, physician offices and FSRMC as directed, including patients on oxygen and/or IV therapy. Maintains equipment used to transport patients, including oxygen cylinders, in transport devices. Assists with maintenance of unit stock room(s) including putting up stock and assisting with inventory as directed. * Ensures timely and accurate patient data communication to appropriate staff member/LIP. Follows outlined organizational processes (for example: emergency codes, exposure control plans, event reporting). Communicates and interacts through hospital systems and verbally with health care team in an efficient manner. Utilizes appropriate hospital systems/processes to ensure timely communication. * Maintains appropriate level of productivity/work output while flexing to focus on immediate priorities. Assists through admission, discharge and transfer processes as directed. * Provides personal care to patients, adhering to the individualized plan of care in cooperation with the RN: Attends to special/personal needs of the patient. Delivers care at appropriate developmental level. Takes care to put patient at ease and create a comfortable environment that reduces the patient's fear. Assists patients in ambulating. * Provides patients with diversional activities. * Demonstrates the following skills in accordance with unit standards and expectations: Creative problem solving, Critical thinking, Organizational skills, Appropriate prioritization, Utilizes appropriate lines of authority, Responds in emergency situations, Establishes appropriate priorities. * Demonstrates the skills and judgment necessary to provide direct care to patients under the direct supervision of licensed personnel. Observes and communicates patient's status and needs to the appropriate team member in a timely manner. * Clarifies instructions and asks for guidance when additional information is needed. Adheres to infection control guidelines and appropriate use of PPE. * Demonstrates strong and consistent communication skills: Interacts effectively with multidisciplinary health care team, ancillary staff, patients, students, volunteers and visitors via face to face and telephone interactions. Effectively communicates both written and verbally facilitating accurate and timely provision of care. * Demonstrates appropriate concern for patient confidentiality. Continuously displays a positive attitude within the department and across departmental lines. Fosters and encourages the principles of Child and Family-centered care to include: communication, orientation, and implementation of family-centered care actions and projects. * Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible and courteous environment: Shows concern for privacy of others and follows all privacy regulations. Displays sensitivity and understanding that others are inconvenienced. Stocks supplies and equipment in a proactive basis and/or as directed. Assists with admissions, transfers and discharges. Receives and contributes to nursing report. Actively participates and contributes to unit initiatives. * Willingly assumes all other duties and responsibilities as necessary. * Utilizes hospital and departmental resources/time respectfully and accountably: Manages unit/specialty area budget items and patient charge items responsibly. Punctually arrives for work. Adheres to break and lunch time frames. Treats and uses job tools responsibly and appropriately (example: computer). * Consistently optimizes time efficiently and effectively and serves as a role model/resource for others. * Respectfully uses hospital resources appropriately, avoiding miss-use, abuse or waste. * Promptly, thoroughly and accurately records applicable patient charges to ensure appropriate billing of services. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS * Note: Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position. * Light lifting, pushing and pulling is required for 10-20 lbs occasionally and frequent moving of objects of less than 10 lbs is required. Frequent sitting with some walking, standing, squatting, bending and reaching is required. Keyboard/computer use and/or repetitive motions may be required.
