The North Carolina Forest Service is a team of professionals who provide forest protection, emergency response, resource management and environmental education to the residents and landowners of North Carolina through a variety of programs. The North Carolina Forest Service provides services to all 100 counties in North Carolina. The Water Resources Branch (WRB) delivers educational programs, outreach products, and technical support for forestry best management practices (BMPs) to protect water quality. The Watershed & Conservation Staff Forester (W&CSF) is a team member of the WRB and provides: * BMP/nonpoint source/water quality outreach, training and education events (e.g., quarterly BMP newsletters, year-in-review, BMP video production, ProLogger instruction, ranger training, and others), * BMP technical assistance to agency and partner field personnel, forest operators and forestland owners, * Support for BMP case study projects that demonstrate or examine BMP effectiveness, * Support for reviews, comments, and interpretations of new Federal and State rules/regulations pertaining to forestry operations. * Support for special projects related to agency operations and water quality protection, * Support for BMP implementation survey field work, analyses, and outreach, * Support for water-related committees advancing the agency's mission, and * Support for all-risk incident/emergency response. NCFS is an Emergency Response Division. Work schedules may require extended hours and/or possible emergency callback. Duty Station: North Carolina Forest Service Headquarters, 512 N. Salisbury St, Archdale 10th Floor, Raleigh, NC Must have or be able to obtain within 90 days of hire, a valid N.C. Driver's License. Telephone required. Work hours are typically 8:00 - 5:00, Monday - Friday. Some work functions require evening, holiday and weekend involvement for all-risk incident response which periodically requires readiness 24 hours/day, 7 days/week. To qualify for this position, applicants must document on the application that they possess ALL of the following: * Knowledge of forestry Best Management Practices. * Strong verbal and written communication skills. * Ability to meet deadlines and effectively manage projects. * Ability to work collaboratively and provide quality customer service. MANAGEMENT PREFERENCES: * N.C. Forest Service experience. * Knowledge of North Carolina's Forest Practices Guidelines Related to Water Quality (FPGs). * Knowledge of forestry Best Management Practice (BMP) surveys and/or effectiveness monitoring. You may qualify by an equivalent combination of education and experience, either through years of education or years of directly related experience, or a combination of both. Bachelor's degree in forestry from a Society of American Foresters (SAF) accredited institution and three years of related professional Forestry experience; or Registered by the NC Board of Registration for Foresters and three years of related professional post registration Forestry experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary Special Requirement Those not registered at the time of hire must obtain registration as a Forester from the NC Board of Registration for Foresters within one year of employment.Any employment offer may be less than the maximum of the range due to salary equity with similarly situated employees or the selected candidate's related education and experience.
